LET GO

written by: hisquietchild

Five in the morning, on a bus leaving Missouri
A three year old asks, is dad gonna hurry?
Her mom pats her head, told her nothing to worry
But mom knew that dad would be frightened with fury
Cuz he did not know where they'd go

A dad left behind, with feelings intense
His family gone, made no common sense
His baby girl sad, but appeased by suspense
of what was to come; her perception too dense.
She easily came to let go.

The first day of school she befriended Elaine
By midterm they fought, so her best friend was Jane
The week before summer her heart tore in twain
For news was delivered, they were moving to Spain
And that's when she learned to let go

From that year on forward they continued the same
Moving around like an early campaign
Settling in then came the refrain
Come on kids, we're moving again
she continued to learn to let go

She contented herself, enjoying the change
Teaching herself to adapt to the strange
Loving every new chance to arrange
Any part of her life that seemed too deranged.
It became a new ease to let go.

Romantically, thus, this child was lost
Never accepting the risk and the cost
Too often ignoring the warnings that crossed
Building up walls with mem'ries embossed
She yearned for a time to let go.

She first looked to man, but was wholly confounded
Receiving just guilt, and its weight was compounded
She came home still searching, and finally found
A Savior with whom she finally felt grounded
But she still wasn't free to let go.

Reacquainted with dad after years of elusion
she'd humbly ask him to forgive her delusion
Knowing his past debunked her conclusion
That he'd been an ogre and deserved the exclusion;
they both learned to forgive and let go.

The dad became ill, and finally passed
Leaving the family shocked and aghast
Alone on that night, to her Savior held fast
Praying his suffering would end and not last
She learned a new way to let go

And after all this, she still felt restrained
To let go in ways that give freedom from pains
A freedom assumed in a family, ingrained.
Unlearned by our maiden, that gift unsustained.
When will she be free to let go?

Throughout all her journeys, her firmest desire
Remains to be married to a man who's on fire
With a passion for Jesus, which still does require
The practice of modesty and dousing that fire;
Yearning for the time to let go.
