House of Hearts

What is this condition,
detailed with utmost care?
Building a home of experience,
with little time to spare.

Softening the edge of a buttress,
carving the bulk of the door,
leveling the angle of pictures,
and storage from ceiling to floor.

The process begins when we're children
preparing ideas and our tools.
Attentive to societal changes,
expectancies, patterns, and rules.

The formative years of our youth
determine how solid our base.
Refusing to listen to reason,
the foolish do nothing but chase.

But who on earth isn't foolish?
And how many of us are unwise?
Who of us for a moment
can command the earth and her skies?
