A Beautiful Accident

written by: OurSacredHonor

From a distance I wasn't sure
When you got closer though I knew
It took us a while to make sense of it
But then I smiled and you did too
I can't count the number of times
I've seen your figure from afar
Only to walk past someone else
And wonder where you really are
So many times I had given up
On ever seeing you around
And just when I stopped looking
Suddenly you were found

Won't you throw me a line?
I'm lost here out at sea
Rocked to sleep by the waves
And drowning in irony
I had wanted to clear things up
I wanted to be sure
But then you came knocking
Right after I closed the door
I can't decide if you're right on time
Or if you're a day late
Either way it's safe to say
I've resigned the outcome to fate

For months now I'd been trying to catch you
And you'd always just slip through my grasp
A fish in the lake, you'd make your escape
Until my next line was cast
Now here in the blistering heat of summer
With the sun beating down on our backs
I didn't have to say anything
You stopped me dead in my tracks

No matter how well-scripted, a plot is always twisted
Nothing ever goes according to plan
I couldn't have constructed a more perfect collision
Than the one we never really had

You gave me all of your reasons
How life had spun you all around
While I tried to slow my heart's beating
And plant my feet back on the ground
You told me you were happy to see me
And that we'd get together real soon
You'd have easier days and you'd swing by my way
To catch up one afternoon

Now the wheel has been relinquished
Yet the pedal is still stuck to the floor
It seemed like we missed by only inches
But I know I missed you so much more

We've narrowly avoided disaster
Time and time again
But if you and I wanted to collide
What a beautiful accident we would have been

You are one of my favorite authors. Reading your poetry is so refreshing. The end rhyme, and the whole rhyme scheme in general is amazing, the clarity is great, the smoothness of wording is just....so good. Talented, I must say you are. Something I wish I was.

This is strange but I was listening to Eminem while reading this and it fits in perfectly. Have you ever tried rapping? You'd be great
