Memories and Mementos

Sometimes you reminisce about the days when you were a kid
Too naive to appreciate them and now you really wish that you did
You've become a teenager and can't appreciate the days of the past
You better learn to life in the moment 'cause it flies by so fast

It seems like only yesterday I was in middle school
i was just a dorky kid trying to figure out how to be cool
But looking back I realize that I was just a fool
I didn't have to be like them or follow their rules
I realized that all I had to ever be was just me
I realized the only gilr I'd ever love would be she
I realized that I had my whole life ahead of me
Those times went by way too fast, they were gone so quickly

It's like I was in high school just this morning
I remember all those days when i was performing
All the time speng hanging out under the awning
The best days of my life spent there were gone without a warning
I'd give almost anything to have them back
Remember all the time spent in the band room hallway where we say?
Study hall, class and band, remember all the conversations that we had?
And all that time on the football field marching around in those funny looking hats!

This is a message to all of you who have the chance that I have blown
No matter how much you think you hate it, you'll love it more than you'll ever know
You only get this part of your life once so live it as you go
Because when it's all said and done all you've have left are memories and mementos
