Glutton (My 4th Sonnet Written Feb 2007)

Like a penniless glutton in a sweet shop
Like a thirsty alchoholic in a public house
Like someone with a cold without a cough drop
Like a cat from the window desiring a mouse
I find myself feeling the way they might
These frustrated souls pay the full cost
Like I do, trying to escape your shadow at night
When I'm with you darling, I'm just as lost
I see you with another, and I know, her, you love
I love you both and I daily praise your happiness
But I suffer on the fence looking in gardens from above
Please don't let me go on suffering in my loneliness
My feelings for you are too deep now to go on and pretend
Sorry, but I need time to learn to love you as just my friend
