Story of a Friendship

written by: OurSacredHonor

One lonely night in the middle of the forest
an owl sat atop a tree
Icicles formed on the dead tree branches in the chill air
and the ground was white as far as he could see
suddenly in the darkness there was
a glimmer of light
two yellow eyes like lightning bolts
pierced the night
they belonged to a cat
that had gone astray
when her journey had begun
it was bright as day
but upon nightfall
she had lost her way
she seemed hurt on the inside
as if she had been betrayed
the owl invited the cat into his home
a hollowed out knot hole in the oak
she had kept her tears in
but finally the dam broke
her tears poured out
and the owl lent her his ears
the kitten kept crying
until the owl knew all her fears
he offered her comfort
he offered her his heart
she asked him how to make things better
he told her a smile was the start
the cat smiled, laid her head on his shoulder
and then cried until she dreamed
it was then that she realized
life wasn't as bad as it had seemed
she woke up to discover the owl
eagerly watching her wake with a glimmer in his eye
he asked her how she felt now
she smiled and simply said "I have no need to cry"
she jumped up to embrace him
as he held her in his wings
she tried to thank him for listening and being a friend
the owl just replied, "My thanks are all the joys that true friendship brings"
