"THE GODS OF ROCK'N'ROLL"

written by: Nick Turk

They came to us from out of the void,
borne in on a mighty wind,
like riders on the storm that Winter's night.
They rode upon steeds of midnight black,
their hearts aglow with fire,
and they truly were an awe-inspiring sight.

They said they came from a distant land,
atop a mountain high,
a place no mortal man had ever been.
A place we'd glimpsed but in our dreams,
where wonders lined the streets,
and miracles like no man had ever seen.

And lo, high up above they sat,
and watched our every move,
and over time did settle on a goal.
To teach the world a brand new sound,
like none they'd heard before,
for truly they were The Gods of Rock'n'Roll.

The Gods of Rock'n'Roll, they say,
can manipulate the weather.
By racing round on motorbikes
and wearing lots of leather.
So just for tonight,
let me show you the light.
Then we'll all come together
and hold each other tight.
Then the Gods of Rock'n'Roll,
Oh yeah!
The Gods of Rock'n'Roll
Then the Gods of Rock'n'Roll will set us free...

And so it was they'd chosen us,
our humble little band,
a mouth with which to spread their sacred word.
They said they'd make us heroes,
like the world had never seen,
and musicians like no one had ever heard.

Like the Horsemen at the End of Time
their group it numbered four,
And each had skills essential to the whole.
Though no rains of fish or seas of blood
had brought them here tonight,
but an all encompassing love of Rock'n'Roll.

And so it was the time arrived
to bless us with their gifts,
as each took turns to step into the fray.
And all was quiet throughout the land,
that cold, dark Winter's night,
as one by one they taught us how to play.

The Gods of Rock'n'Roll, they say,
rock loud all over Heaven.
On amps that all have knobs and dials
that go up to 11.
So just for a hour,
before things turn sour.
Just turn up the music,
and give in to the power.
For the Gods of Rock'n'Roll
Oh yeah!
The Gods of Rock'n'Roll
For the Gods of Rock'n'Roll are here to stay...

Korg, the God of the Beat stood 10 feet high,
a fearsome looking man,
who held a mighty hammer in one hand.
And bringing it down with all his might,
upon the mountains high,
he helped maintain a rhythm for the band.

Then all at once a sound rang out
that touched our very hearts,
and held the world within its warm embrace.
And looking up towards its source
we saw a wondrous sight,
for it was Fender, The Almighty God of Bass.

Then as if in answer to this sound
a single chord rang out,
as from the heavens there came a single shout.
And with a guitar held in his hands
with strings of purest gold,
Rickenbacker, The God of the Riff stepped out.

But still the group was not complete
as still one piece remained,
one final God to join this group of three.
Then with a sudden primal scream
that shook the very earth,
Logos, The God of the Song appeared for all to see.

The Gods of Rock'n'Roll, they say,
get drunk whenever they're able.
They invite each other down the pub,
and then drink them under the table.
So just for a time,
while we're still in our prime.
I'll show you a faith
that's both pure and sublime.
Then the Gods of Rock'n'Roll,
Oh yeah!
The Gods of Rock'n'Roll,
Then the Gods of Rock'n'Roll will rule the day...

A rhythmic beat,
a memorable bass
and a riff of golden light.
plus a heavenly song that touched our very souls.
And so it was, their job complete,
the Gods they turned to us,
And blessed the band with The Spirit of Rock'n'Roll.

Then all at once we began to play
as the music rushed through our veins,
with a powerful force that we had at our control.
And in that precious moment
as the music came alive,
We had at last become true Gods of Rock'n'Roll.

And the world, as one, embraced our band,
as they held their hands up high,
and sang in time to the music that we played.
And as we rocked the nation
on that cold dark Winters night,
we knew in our hearts we'd be top of the hit parade.

For in this world we live our lives
and though times may seem hard,
one simple fact will guide us on our way.
Though life on earth may come and go
and death will find us all,
our heavenly song it will forever stay.

The Gods of Rock'n'Roll, they say,
move in mysterious ways.
They party hard,
get drunk a lot,
and then don't come home for days.
So just for today,
let me show you the way.
So get down on your knees
and together we'll pray.
For the Gods of Rock'n'Roll,
Oh yeah!
The Gods of Rock'n'Roll,
For the Gods of Rock'n'Roll will never die...

But the Gods they had one final thing
to share with us that night,
a promise - that they wouldn't be going far.
And if in doubt we needn't fret
but just gaze up to the sky,
and say a prayer to the fabled Rock'n'Roll Star....
