Masquerade - critics accepted and favored

written by: loveroux637

A single berry bush
thinks of his future.
Worries about his thorns
Checking to see if they're still there
to guard him.

A berry bush in the middle
of a meadow thinks
About what was there to fear
he deliberates
And the more he becomes
mistrustful.

He thinks of the possibilities.
Endless possibilities.
Infinite possibilities.
Morose possibilities.

Possibly he will be stolen from
by animals or humans.
Possibly he will lose
his sweet, priceless berries.

After a while he sees the fire
the poverty, the hardship.
The famished children, the helpless nation
the starving people in need of food.

Many times has he been approached
he threatened them with his thorns.
He was very much afraid of losing
his cherished little fruits.

It ends there, it ends there.
The bush is ignorant and egotistical.
People are not bushes
but sometimes
they pretend;
they mock and mimic.
