It Happened

It happened
As much as you've put it behind you
As much as you've unknowingly repressed and ignored
It happened

You thought that you were so much better
You thought that you were healed
You forced yourself to burry yourself in work
To forget... To forget

Now that you're starting to get a hold on things
To take your head out of the cement
Images that you didn't realize still existed
Sneak violently into your head

Little flashes of disgust and revulsion
Twinges that make you feel
As though all the hot showers in the world
Can't cleanse you

It happened
Now that you're opening up
Now that you're trying to break free
It's clawing to drag you back into the muck

It happened
You need to face it and break free
You can't let it pull you down again
You need to stop hiding

Because it happened
It's over, but it happened
You're safe now
But you won't be if you let it keep owning you
