Do You Still Stand?

written by: Joe Breton

Do you still stand white wicket gate
Guarding that old house
Saturated with the memories
That cling to me?
Those faded memories tag along
As I continue to fall
Into the future.
Do you still stand,
Or did they tear you down
With impersonal claws?
I remember the days,
Yet, they're no longer days,
But only fragments
Embedded in my head
Reminding me of
A different world.
The summer seemed softer then.
I lived for each day
Not thinking much of the next.
Those were days of dreams.
What can I say of today?
