Open up to an old man lying on his bed
His family looks down to bow their head
Man watches his life through glass eyes
As he goes through the motions looking for the prize
He wonders did he make the right path
Or did he do everything to invoke God's wrath
But it's all too late for it now
Because he has to reap what he sowed
Man remembers back in the day
When he had to look the other way
And he never forgot how it made him feel
Like he made the black deal
For such earthly pleasures
It's what he use to measure
How he lived from then on
He thought he would just use his brawn
But he had failed
Yet he was still hailed
Like the hero he wanted to become
He awakes from this past feeling numb
His heart feels like it's on fire
He looks to his grandson hoping to inspire
That the world could have its leader
As long as he was a believer
In what one day could be real
As chases it with such great zeal
Pain spikes in his chest
The old man is scared of his mess
That he will leave the ones he loves
He wonders if he earned his spot
In the glorious heavens above
He hopes he won't be forgot
The end is so very near
The old man is around the ones he holds dear
His once great heart pounds to an end
His grandson picks up where the old man began
