Search for Happiness

Me
You
Him
Her
It's all the same
It's all a blur
Ask anyone
And they'll concur
Happiness isn't something
For life to confer
It is earned through effort
Just like respect
Nobody knows
What will be next
Though we all are separate
Our paths still connect
The things I have heard
I wouldn't expect
You've been here before
You've felt this like me
So have they, so has he
So has she
Why was I so blind to this
That I couldn't see
All along have my eyes been shielded
By my dependency?
All of us searching
To be happy at last
Hidden in darkness
By the shadows cast
Trying to learn
From each other's pasts
And all the while
Time ticks on by way too fast
We can't catch up
We can't slow down
Our feet better be moving
When we hit the ground
We open our mouths
But without a sound
A silent scream
No one's around
No one listens
No one to hear
You're left alone
You and your fear
You sit and cry
A lonely tear
But we've all been there
And now I'm here
