The first words are always the hardest to get out
The hateful words are always the easiest to shout
The regretted words are all the ones that we fight about
Speaking when thought is an afterthought causes only doubt
I sharpen my weapon on the tip of my tongue
Introductions finished we draw forth from our corners, the starting bell has rung
I Dot my I's and cross my T's, the battle has begun
Seconds later the punch is thrown and I'm remorseful for what I've done
No blood is shed in these battles, only tears
No lives lost, yet we pay a cost oh so dear
The wounded fall as questions rise and all that you can hear
Is that reverberation of the echo of those words played back in your ear
I won't bite my tongue
This isn't tongue in cheek
Please be aware
Words aren't for the weak
They destroy our hope
But first its doubt they seek
Words can turn about on you
So think before you speak
Language isn't a barrier but rather the cannon behind the wall
Waiting to launch an articulated assault, waiting for your call
People who do not fear them say "there only words afterall"
But in the end it turns out that those very words will cause their fall
Hold my breath, try not to stutter
Silence blinds us, but the words you utter
Leave a scar that's buried deep
A burden to carry, a nightmare to keep you cold
When you fall asleep
Teeth clenched, like the fists by my side
Tongue-tied in knots behind them, words swallowed like my pride
Choking on the words I tried so hard to hide
Those words I fought so desperately to keep stuffed down inside
I won't bite my tongue
This isn't tongue in cheek
Please be aware
Words aren't for the weak
They destroy our hope
But first its doubt they seek
Words can turn about on you
So think before you speak
Like disease, ill guided and betrayed
Lost amongst the plethora of wrong things you can say
Struggle with time, not of sound mind, easily led astray
What it all comes down to, two letters you're not, OK
Brain flushes them out, your mouth is the sewer
Some will use more, some will use fewer
Some tend to be older, other ones seem newer
It doesn't really matter at all once you pick the one you'll skewer
Mouth open like a knife wound, allowed to bleed free
Piercing like a needle, injecting a memory
Until the tourniquet tightens and the jaw clamps shut firmly
That tongue will bleed its bitterness on every ear that it shall see
I won't bite my tongue
This isn't tongue in cheek
Please be aware
Words aren't for the weak
They destroy our hope
But first its doubt they seek
Words can turn about on you
So think before you speak
