The stories, the readings
Prophets foreseeing
Omniscient beings
With angels overseeing
Worship and betrayal
Sinners and blackmail
Heresy and hypocrites
Religion becomes politics
No separation, church is state
Policies not open for debate
Free will taken by predetermination of our fate
March off to church like an army off to war
Every time like clockwork, never asking "what for?"
Digression during procession revealing an empty core
Realize its lacking substance, then still wonder why you're bored
You praise the dead then behave like zombies risen from the dirt
You pray to nothing wishing for something and wonder why you still hurt
You worship omnipotence and prolong your own ignorance searching for a heaven in our sky
But it seems to me none of those celestial bodies ever seem to catch your eye
Enlisted in an army trained to defend the lies
Told to them time and time again til it comes as no surprise
Preach contradictions just to feed your addiction
Knowledge evictions as you buy into fiction
Causes friction and turmoil
Even on our own soil
Give up your freedom for the shackles of what your told
And live to regret when you grow old
On the day your faith fails you
It's the day you lose everything
On the day your faith fails you
It's the day you're left with nothing
Because we were put onto this earth to give it all away
Too many people think we exist solely just to take
So take their words, just like the shepard's herds
Marched to battle just like cattle to the butcher
When you die I hope for you that happiness is all you feel
But can that happen if in all your life you never believed in anything real?
Perpetuate insinuations
Religious robots doing recitations
Literate but lacking free speech
Can read the words but cannot teach
Gods were created to explain the unknown
People grew to fear it, but since ancient time's we've grown
But ignorance is bliss and so many still buy into it
As long as in the end the church makes a profit
Rather than seeking a scientific means to understand
You excuse it all as "God's master plan"
You're just as guilty of heresy as the witches of Salem whom they burned
For you dissent against science and all the things we've learned
So go ahead, pray to your nobody and I'll go wish upon my star
At least I can see it, even if it's from afar
I'll take my chances on a flaming ball of gaseous helium
Before I believe with a church that didn't want me to believe that the earth went around the sun
People will fight over their beliefs, they'll fight til the bitter end
Not realizing that fighting over gods is like fighting over who has the best imaginary friend
You wouldn't so soon defend your own country, the one that grants you free will
But for Him you'd do anything, and if they asked you the right way I bet you would probably kill
You can't comprehend what doesn't exist
But yet you'll defend it while clenching your fist
You'll scold me and call me evil with no intelligent defense
Proving to me once again how you all love to swim in your own ignorance
I really hate to use the term, but maybe I'm a prophet
But it really isn't hard to foresee regret
On the day your faith fails you
It's the day you lose everything
On the day your faith fails you
It's the day you're left with nothing
Because we were put onto this earth to give it all away
Too many people think we exist solely just to take
So take their words, just like the shepard's herds
Marched to battle just like cattle to the butcher
When you die I hope for you that happiness is all you feel
But can that happen if in all your life you never believed in anything real?
On the day your faith fails you
I hope I can be there
On the day your faith fails you
I hope I can make clear
Everything I've said about you worshipping the dead for nothing
Maybe then I can help you to learn to live for something
Something real that you can feel or even touch if you so desire
Because your belief in religion will yield the same result as a numb hand placed into fire
The Bible is the all-time bestselling book of fiction, think of all the tales from which it's comprised
Your lack of knowledge is no excuse to fabricate and distribute lies
Fifteen billion years or so and here we are
A walking thinking mass of matter gazing at the stars
Floating away from a beginning we will never understand
The least we can do is learn what it means to be human
