Three Hours Away

Three hours away
As I waste away the day
Can't get you out of my head yet
Many miles between us
Wonderin' what I can dream up
Then ask myself why I'm not in bed yet
A body of water separates
But its not the ocean that divides our fates
I find it ironic that what separates is a sound
I've crossed that divider too many times to count
Each time it seems the pain does mount
It hurts more and more the less you are around
The silence penetrates my ears
Disseminating all my fears
Throughout a head of mine that's so distraught
Civil talk turns to argument
Arguing over what we meant
To say but never learned from lessons taught

If you let me, I promise
To make my intentions known
If you let me, I promise
My feelings will show
If you let me, I promise
That they will grow
If you let me, I promise
I'll find my way back home

The hardest three hours of my lifetime
I spend drifting away from you at high tide
It doesn't get much easier
The waves make my stomach queasier
I try my best to get my mind off you
But it doesn't work no matter what I do
I'm not the best at letting go
My feelings never seem to show
At least not when I need them to
They tend to hide away from you
I trust you know my words are best
Whenever I need to express
Emotions piercing through my mind
Some so gentle, some unkind
Yet we argue way too much
And I always seem so out of touch
An even though sometimes it's hard to see
I promise you that you mean everything to me

If you let me, I promise
To make my intentions known

That they will grow

I'll find my way back home

Waves turn over as the shoreline sits
Just on the horizon, it perfectly fits
Like your hand into mine
I love you and you know this
And in time I'll prove it
If you'll just give me the time

Back home to you
