deep and wide

written by: alf hickey

My heart is so broken
Cored from the inside
The chambers drained of hope
It expands like a big brown balloon

That grows until it should burst
And as it grows, bigger than myself
Empty it is me
Then it is free

And the small space I had made
Hollowed out with my law making
Law giving
Law following

Just too small for my God
This vessel of pain is still too small
I must be emptier
Grow empty till the hole is bigger than me

Fat with air
A shell of self
A membrane of me
The IT

Grow so big that God can enter in
Grow till you burst
For God is bigger than you or I
Our God is beyond
