The Girl Who Smiled

written by: Tigressarah

The world saw smiles, But none of her tears,

They saw happiness, but none of her fears,

And the one closest, who should have seen it all,

Was so lost in himself, he saw nothing at all.

Her youth was wasted, dreaming of what could be,

Instead of building herself a happy history.

She sat and waited for him to wake and realize

What was really hiding behind smiling eyes.

But like the world, he saw all smiles,

Instead of knowing it was all guile.

He said she was young and childish,

He said her feelings were foolish.

He payed the bills, and never strayed,

And thought his husbandly due was paid.

No love or affection did he give,

Thus was the way he chose to live.

And so her tears continued to flow,

And their bitterness began to show.

He should have taken her warning to heart,

But instead, they drifted farther apart.

Now they lay the blame on the other,

And still her tears are undercover.

For his heart of ice will never melt,

And her true feeling he never felt,

So she sat in her world of grey

Until she faded completely away.

Hi I read your poem, and I can relate to it so much. Its so true, that we have a smile and then true feelings are kept inside, and we blame and drift and fade away. I like your poem.
You can read mine. vinitasingh03 The phases she kept changing, and write a comment.
