The Big Wreck and the Slow Decline

written by: OurSacredHonor

Why is it so hard just to get things straight?
I can't seem to get it right, I can't concentrate
I'm fading into memories that'll only lead to disaster
It seems that when I hit the breaks I only go faster
I'm cruising down the highway of my life and eighty-five
Trying just to prove to myself that I'm still alive
Don't know if I can take this pressure building up on me
I guess it'll just take time for us to see
As for this moment I will live it just as best as I can
Striving to keep driving, trying to be a better man
Pedal to the metal and there's no turning back
Up the bank, straight through the wall and I'm heading off the track

I'm sorry if this isn't what you thought it would be
I'm sorry if I don't become exactly what you think of me
I'm sorry if this isn't what you had in mind
It's the big wreck and the slow decline

There are days when you feel that your heart has sank
And your out in the rain pushing your car on an empty tank
Or your twisting and dodging through the traffic in the city
Buses, cars and taxis, and the businessmen I pity
Rats in a maze just going through the motions
Never even realizing they're minutes from the ocean
A whole world outside this that we may never know
Unless we choose to open up and grow
Everything passed in this life that stood right in our way
Is everything behind us that has got us here today
Everything we think about to get us through those nights
That is everything that'll make it all all right

I'm sorry if this isn't what you thought it would be
I'm sorry if this isn't a good enough apology
I'm sorry if this isn't what you had in mind
It's the big wreck and the slow decline
