City of Angels
My feet no longer touch the ground,
the world has been turned upside down on me.
Head suspended in the air below,
my feet now dangle above the sea.
The structures upon which I stood,
have been whisked out from beneath me.
Destroyed by the sudden change,
all around me floats their debris.
No foundation or ground remains,
to rest my weary soles upon.
Nothing is left to soothe me now,
to condole the mess I've become.
Despair invades me as I gaze,
everything destroyed in one fell swoop.
Yet one bright Light still remains,
allowing me to see the truth.
Hope fills me now,
it is not tragedy but something to work through.
I welcome it as a blessing now,
for it has given me the chance to start anew.
And as I rebuild,
the Light remains over me.
The more I construct the brighter it grows,
allowing me more to see.
Each structure that arises new,
makes me love more the Light I have found.
Each one better than the last,
bringing my feet back closer to the ground.
And as I place the final block,
my toes gently brush the floor.
Finally I am allowed to walk,
among the city I slaved to restore.
My constructions are my Kingdom now,
and the Light over me is larger than the Sun.
But I realize I own nothing,
for without the Light I would never have begun.
Outsiders marvel at it in jealousy;
they try to break in with cudgels.
Among them it has a name,
the City of Angels.
A name that suits,
for I've discovered that's what you are.
All along you were there,
the Light that has healed every scar.
And sitting here among the wonders,
admiring how much we grew.
Still I have one wish,
to be worthy of you.
