Before It's Gone

written by: OurSacredHonor

When I ran away
I think my words must have too
Because I can't think of
One single thing to say to you
I can't decide if it's fear
Or unbridled excitement
But whatever this feeling is
I can tell you I don't like it
The uncertainty of it all
Creates an impenetrable cloud
My lips are sealed in silence
And still my head screams so loud

I've kept my distance
I've stayed away
I served my sentence
When I lost my case
Given my repentance
Hoping I could save
What little remains
Before it's gone without a trace

I won't settle for
Halfway this time
It's all or nothing
This is the end of the line
I want the trust I lost
I want the friend I knew
I want to wake up tomorrow
and feel brand new
I want to be more than just
The occupant sitting passenger side
I want to be someone you can respect
Or maybe even admire

I've kept my distance
I've stayed away
I served my sentence
When I lost my case
Given my repentance
Hoping I could save
What little remains
Before it's gone without a trace

If it's true I've changed for the better
I'm hoping that you'll see
Maybe by now I've changed just enough
To restore your faith in me

I've always loved your poetry, and this, is one of your best

Thanks! I feel my writing's been in a rut lately. The compliment is encouraging.
