The Insomniac's Guide to Finding Deeper Meaning in Portraits

written by: OurSacredHonor

It's 3:15 in the morning
My brain sends out its warning
You're gonna crash soon
Disappear like the waning moon
But I throw caution to the wind
And as I sit here I begin
To take a jog down memory lane
Digging through the archives excavating all my pain
Face to face with a picture
The ink makes me think how much I miss her
Now that I'm not around
Ever since I packed up and left this town
How things change when a picture takes a persons place
Sitting here and staring at that unchanging face
Pixel perfect, defined lines
Stuck in space and trapped in time
I envy that backdrop, it got closer than I ever could
I'm grateful for every word of mine that you may have understood
But pictures become collages that become blurs that quickly fade
Calendars are no longer useful except for counting down the days
I firmly hold onto the hands of the clock
They pull me through the current and pass me around the rocks
The world persistently turns as I pretend to forget about you
That's my wrong way of dealing with this and trying to live without you
Did you try to forget me? Was I on your mind?
There are answers to questions that I may never find
Appearances deceive and lead me to believe that things are not the same
Distance increases, communication ceases, but still we remain
My eyes feel like lead but refuse to shut
Your words echo in my head, and butterflies flutter in my gut
I miss the walks, the talks, those nights, but most of all those smiles
Fortunately for me my memories defeat my denial
It's now 3:58
I guess it's kinda of late
There are birds chirping in the backyard
And the sun eagerly awaits
On the brim of this world
As I write about a girl
Who means more to me than she may ever know
Even though I'm not so good at letting it show
Please take these cluttered words and tired thoughts and treat them well
I hope to see you soon my friend, I miss you, can you tell?
43 lines deep and I need some sleep
So please look at the stars and know those times are ours to keep
