Every Star in the Sky

written by: OurSacredHonor

My dreams keep me
In a sleeping state of insomnia
Voices scream, "I'm onto ya"
And with eyes shut I cannot see
The minds eye wanders but never forgets
I may let it get to me a little too much
But it seems like forever we've been out of touch
What I'd give to be under that starlit sky
With you for one single night
Just to walk and talk and be friends again
Are we still? Will we meet?
Or can I just not compete
With the fresh new faces of the crowd
I spoke too long and a little too loud
Didn't listen enough or acted too proud
Wasn't ever here when you wanted me around
Or maybe it was never built to last
And time flew by way too fast
For us to set our feet long enough
Wasn't impossible, but damn it was tough
And we couldn't quite do
The things we both may have wanted too
Too few hours in the day
You'll say
And shrug gently while you walk away
I'll say, "Stay, please stay"
And would it be okay
If I asked you to pretend
That we were good friends again
Or that miles and mountains didn't separate
A unique pair that almost fit, even to this date
Just missed it, I mumble
As I step back from the plate
Hoping this isn't too little, too late
I'd settle for a few minutes of your precious time
Every line, every rhyme has this intention in mind
If you've thought even once about me since last fall
If you ever gave a damn or cared at all
Give me a call or send me a sign
But please give me anything except more time
I don't want to wander away from you anymore
I'm done with being pulled away now my feet are on the floor
I'll hold my ground
Til you come around
And we'll talk all night, and when the time is right
We'll try and see every star in the sky once more
