The Epic of Miss Humanity

written by: Mike Basile

Floating above
this horrible show,
I take pity on
this world below.
Their lives are wrought
with deceit and lies,
and every day,
yet another dies.
Either from lust for war
or their tremendous greed,
for to both of these things,
their lives they feed.
How can they be so?
A race so corrupt?
I feel it's my duty,
to their lives, disrupt.
For their ways disgust me,
being born into perfection.
I must eradicate them,
I must cleanse their infection.
So I descend upon them
displaying much haste,
and begin with my plan
to lay them to waste.
But how was I to know
that I would soon see
the most beautiful creature,
among this debris?
Caught in her gaze,
as helpless as a child.
I would swear that time stood,
as soon as she smiled.
And when I peered on
her wondrous curves,
a sensation rippled
along all of my nerves.
No harm I could do,
I came to realize,
as long as I stood,
under her crystalline eyes.
And no more could I,
the human race- disdain,
for of my malignant thoughts,
this woman was the bane.
I moved to embrace her,
and she did the same.
If only I had known,
that it was all a game.
A calculated gesture,
to allay my suspicion.
An act of deceit,
that was beyond recognition.
I felt the blood run down,
and peered at her scowl.
I was right all along;
mankind is horribly foul.
And so I stabbed her in the back,
just as she did to me,
and whispered, "Goodnight,"
to Miss Humanity.
