Pray for the lights

written by: appletree30

Pray for the Lights

You used to light candles

for those you held close

and now it's your life

that represents a ghost

If you knew how you were missed

would it make you turn the clock

If you saw how it hurts to see you

would it sadden you to stop

What you once were .. no longer lives

Never open to feeling , too weak to care

I often think of what you've missed

how empty you'll be , when you find out you weren't there

So many firsts that you will never know

my marriage, a house, new job, first birthdays , first school years... three beautiful boys

You are an absence

to all of these joys

I tried to reach you

in the darkness, your light fading fast

but, you kept on walking

leaving me with the past

I am lighting a candle for you

hoping you'll see the flame

of a life you once had

and that is still yours to claim

I pray you'll hear my voice or connect to a memory

of how you once were

a mother , a best friend

to me
