Father

written by: UsKidsKnow

Father, please tell me, do you know who I am?
Don't answer with my name, or a memory of my birth
But speak of my hopes, my dreams and my fears
You can't answer because you don't know.

Father, you know I hear you when you speak
But I can't listen when I see your eyes
They hold an air of hate and misery.

Father, though you would say otherwise
You encourage the anger that burns in me
I know this because it's you who taught me
and when we fight it's you who breaks my heart.

Father, you should know that I hate you
Even though I could never love anyone more
You're the hero and the villain of my life.

Father, what keeps you from your smile?
What keeps you from seeing the good in your life?
You have a wife and kids and a God to hold you tight
And yet you turn them sour with your words.

Father, please just close your weary eyes
and look back on the accomplishments you've made
Don't reflect on the shadows, they don't suit you.
