I Wrote This Instead

written by: OurSacredHonor

I don't want to write about my life right now
It's too confusing to get it all down
And I don't want to write about my past instead
Because there are certain things better left unsaid
I could try and write a story,
but it'd end up being truth
I can change the names
but the plots the same,
my fiction's all about you
I could pretend to know the future
and tell you how this life will play out
But this play-by-play
is all hearsay
so I'll leave you to your doubt
I could write about love, and lovers, and sex
but who hasn't wrote about that?
It's what we all want,
or so we thought
until it's what we have
I could write about my fears
and hope that they're the same as yours
But even if they were
it wouldn't make us open our locked doors
I could write of an incredible journey,
but journeys always come to an end
When exploration becomes destination
what am I to do then?
I could write about the time
and ask where it all went
But I would never have the time
to recount every place it's been
I could write about ideas
and how they've changed the world before
But what good are ideas
if no one thinks of new ones anymore?
I could write every single thing
you've ever wished you read
But I'd rather keep you interested
so I wrote this instead

When first read this... I wasn't really feeling it... but I read it again tonight... and I'm shocked that I didn't love it the first time! This is awesome!

makes alot of sense

Add some LSD to that and it would change someone's world.

I like it, anyway, is what I roughly meant.

Wow!
Sometimes, when you read someone else's work...you think..HEY...that is exactly what I was thinking...or feeling! But this work has pretty much summed up all my intent and motivation for writing so far! Cool...and disheartening!

Beautiful. Really, well done! =D

This is amazing. I love the lines, "When exploration becomes destination | what am I to do then?". Great job. ^^

I like it, I just made one cause i had to try to beat yours ;) Well actually i was writing it already and after seeing this decided to post it if you wanna check it out it's called "Environment to pay what price i say!" i think yours is better but i'm sure mine is at least 2nd best here.

Tis' so true that most people write about love, lovers and sex.

I like the way this was written, shifting from "not knowing what to say" and in the end the poem itself says alot :)

One of my favorites by you, I wish I had that talent.
Each and every word you put down flows so smoothly into the next.

"I could try and write a story,
but it'd end up being truth
I can change the names
but the plots the same,
my fiction's all about you"

I understand this part completely, no matter how hard you try to not let things happening in your own life get tangled up in your written work - it does.
I think that is where inspiration comes from, whether we wanted it to or not, but in this instance it seems to have worked out in your favour.

An intriguing piece... No wonder its a community favourite!

It's the irony of inspiration I guess: The lack of inspiration can in and of itself be inspirational. I appreciate all the positive feedback. Glad I could write something my fellow writers could so easily relate to!

Its kinda...weird, but good. I liked it

Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 6:52PM

Every single line you wrote is amazing.. Your poem stands out from the other ones.. it's completey different and amazing... Hats off to you :) I can relate myself to what you wrote especially when I feel the need to write but don't know what exactly about.. I loved the irony in it... Lack of inspiration can be inspirational :) Eager to read more from you

The lay out, and idea of it amazes me, its what just about everyone has ever wanted to write, a poem about wanting to write what has never been written, but the idea is even furthur, because its not just a poem that hasnt been written a thousand times, its a poem about not wanting to write whats been written a thousand times

Your Poem is wonderful, I fell right in it! I love these two parts "I could write about my fears
and hope that they're the same as yours
But even if they were
it wouldn't make us open our locked doors
I could write of an incredible journey,
but journeys always come to an end
When exploration becomes destination
what am I to do then?" and "I could write about ideas
and how they've changed the world before
But what good are ideas
if no one thinks of new ones anymore?" They make so much sence, and they tell of what I feel everytime I try to write another piece. You're a brilliant poet! KEEP IT UP!

very entertaining, and I was actually laughing at parts because I was thinking, so true, so true. This is my favourite section I just about spit my coffee on my screen because it sums up relationships very simply yet completely.

I could write about love, and lovers, and sex
but who hasn't wrote about that?
It's what we all want,
or so we thought
until it's what we have

I like the lightness of the entire piece
