A Publicity Stunt

written by: AnAureateLife

We laugh and we cry, and we write it all down
Finding our release in paper and ink.
Put a smile on "to hide the pain,"
And then tell our friends how our smile is fake.
How public have our inner thoughts become?
What do we still possess for our own?
If our thoughts are for the world,
And our hearts for the world,
Our money and time and love for the world,
Then what, pray tell, belongs to me?

Though your question may very well be rhetorical, I'd like to answer it regardless. Jackie Robinson once said, "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives." If you can believe this than I'm quite sure that the joy this brings you is all that belongs to you. Isn't that all we really need though?
