The Light Behind Your Eyes

written by: Majestic

Grappling
you hide in the darkness
(But don't run too far
the shadows will find you).
Despair and fear fill you
and poison leaks into your veins.
You breathe in fumes
intoxication.
And snakes crawl at your feet.
Shaking,
you cry out into the darkness for refuge
and you cry swallows you.
Suddenly a flicker appears beyond the darkness,
faint and than brighter.
It blinds you but you can't look away.
So bright,
so beautiful.
It swallows the darkness
and wraps your shaking body.
You breathe it in,
filling your hollow body.
A gentle whisper fills your ears,
calling you from the dark.
Your vision clears,
your lens has changed.
The sky is light
and the land is clean.
The trees speak
as the birds sing.
The air is fresh,
perfumed by beauty.
You walk unafraid
and filled with life
as the light wraps around you.
Comforting.

I have experienced what this poem describes, both the darkness and the hope of light just when your at the point of despair. Unfortunately I'm at a place of darkness right now in my life, but reading this reminds me of those times of renewal when, "the trees speak...the birds sing...the light wraps around you." There's some powerful images, and feelings you've created here. Thanks.
