Alf's Infamous but Probably True Quotes 11

written by: alf hickey

I've themed this one: What is Spiritual ?

1. Spiritual things almost always have a physical manifestation. Be this a headache, electricity through your body, shivers, fear or ecstatic joy. This also accounts for the denial of the spiritual, which is spiritual in itself. This will have unique physical manifestations associated with it too. Its like our body reflects spiritual states and can sense the spiritual. It could also mean that our spirit/soul within senses stuff which it expresses to the body. The universe abhors the a-spiritual, like it does a vacuum (vacuum, which I argue could be a myth). So spiritual is general, and our Spirituality, is more to do with how in touch we are with spiritual realities, primarily with the reality of God's work in the universe, world and especially our immediate lives.

2. The best evidence of a soul/body divide is out of body experiences, where people can "fly" out of their bodies and witness things and report back. Not that uncommon. Its that phenomena you hear about in medical operations, maybe more so in near death experiences. My dad left his body a few years ago after being hit by another car and could report on events that happened in the operation. A guy in the bible was raised to a higher heaven, Paul in the bible suggests. But can we say that the physical and spiritual are two separate things ? The kingdom of God is whatever Jesus is over. That might make the physical here spiritual. Even more so than monism or pantheism. Could it be that the distinction between physical and spiritual is false ? A misleading characterisation or categorisation ? Could it be that our categories define a false conception system ? Is there a meta-narrative that is truer than our own, despite post-modern's meta-narrative claim that there are no meta-narratives ?
3. People interact with spirits all the time. the devil is such and God's spirit is such, our spirits are such. You can sometimes look into a person and see this. It is related to this gut instinct or that energy you feel in a room from people. Some clash, making it hard to know how to restore peace, if some spirits naturally clash. This is part of the miraculous transformation of God maybe. Its cool how the unborn John the Baptist responded when the unborn Jesus was close. Makes you wonder about fetal awareness/cognition.
4. Curses still have effect. Mike Warnke, a converted Satanist, reported that placing a hex on a building can definitely burn it down. He reported that their powers didn't work on Christians. But if we have any idea of the power of Satan, you'll realise that He has been given a fair bit of power. With this though, Christians have the author of the universe to protect them. They are told that they will do greater miracles than even Christ did, though some leave this powerful phenomena for the Apostles.
5. Moses when he was close to God carried the glory of God down the mountain, the people couldn't look at him. This is probably aura phenomena, what has been shown to exist scientifically. There was a report once of a church being filled with fire, but the person on closer inspection saw that it was a light emanating from the people in it- Yes "Pentecost" can still happen.

6. Poltergeist phenomena is more common than we might think, in any year I will hear at least three stories. A more interesting one recently, was of a kitchen where if you cooked pork, all the pots and bans would violently rattle (This account was from a traditional Catholic). It was found that the house was on an Islamic burial site and after calling in a Muslim Iman, he id something and the rattling stopped. This suggests the dead still have some reactions. This isn't new. In revelation, the "souls of those who had been slain because of the Word of God" cry out, "How long sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood" (Revelation 6:9-11) The righteous dead, might still want payback !
7. Sadly most of the people experiencing esoteric phenomena are suppressed. We're taught to hide it, hang out with that group there, select it out, take drugs to suppress it and are even locked up for it. We are actively destroying supernatural perception/conception in our society, because of western scientific reduction and its material philosophy. I saw how it was done in grade 1 (I keep telling this story- it was one of my "awakenings" where I had to fight for truth and was persecuted for it). A teacher read a ghost story and then asked the class if it was real. And if anyone disagreed they were punished. It was surprising that even at this early age, kids all believed that ghosts did not exist, except for little Alf. What's with that ? I think its because they are taught that personal phenomenal reality is the only reality. I on the other hand had been exposed to this stuff quite young, our family and Indians I think in general having an understanding of a real spiritual nature of things quite young.
8. Is matter spiritual ? If God is the controller and originator of matter, matter is also spiritual. This also means that there is no true distinction between the material and the spiritual. It is this distinction, maybe likened to Descartes "mind-body" dualism that may have given rise to ideas like Buddhism and modern Hinduism. Buddha actually continued his financial materialism into the spiritual with his transcendental evolutionary thinking. The idea of pay and get promoted, is very similar maybe to the transcendental paradigm- its very Roman Catholic- do good works and rise up the rungs to Nirvana, gop to heaven and suffer less in purgatory. Hinduism, maybe a little more ancient, with roots to the Vedas, it acknowledges one God, Brahma, of which all entities are manifestation of this nature (well that is what the book said about Hinduism when I taught RI in the UK). The Vedas I think believed in a single father God. I explained to the kids, you need to know this stuff, because you have a mosque in Watford and a Hindu temple down the road, you need to know what these guys believe when you interact with them. Its probably good to know what you believe too !
9. Just because we can categorise things, doesn't mean the categories are true.
10. You can believe anything you invent. Doesn't mean it is true. Yet for you it may be. here is the rub. To have any sort of oneness, community or whatever, there needs to be either meta-narrative or unifying principle or an external force/entity that unifies- like God. Apart from this, you can argue that we all have common threads and we emerge into our own unique gaggle of geese. This might be tunnel vision, yet the scripture does say what can you have in common with, despite it also saying to associate with the other, just not someone who sins actively, who considers themself a brother.

11. What about spiritual and psych. People are saying that mental or physical problems need mental or physical solutions, spiritual problems spiritual ones. Yes indeed ! Bu we gotta ask why is it the scripture says if an elder lays on hands annointing the sick with oil and prays the person will be healed ? Have we become so disconnected with our God, God doesn't work through us this way. Or is it we have given in to the scientific enlightenment, that "Oh dear, scripture doesn't match up with geology, or history or science," despite scripture having a "less superstitious" notion of things, than any of these guys throughout history. In fact we still worship the physical like an idol, as if even quantifiable reality means anything. Its still God's nature and still nothing to compare with His handiwork, of which our "inventions," are a poor reflection. An interesting question is, did Dr.Luke stop practicing being a physician when he followed Jesus ? Even Paul kept tent-making when he had to make money, so as not to be a burden to ecclesias (fellowships).
12. What of sin ? Conflict and all, death and the burden on the earth, all come from sin according to scripture. While scientists say, oh we have a cure, the reason for the problem, is still the old spiritual, outdated, blahblah, of the curse. A broken world and imperfection because of our rebellion against God. Yes you die, yes you get sick, yes you decay, yes you fight, are proud, get angry, get stubborn, think you're better etc... God laughs at these things and says, look at yourself ! Get over yourself ! Grow up ! And hand over your puny attempts to reject me on my cross. I'll make you free from all that blahblah ! You gotta ask, what's the point of it all ?
13. We have de-physicalised, de-spiritualised our world that we do things like, tell kids they can't have a girlfriend yet, because they have to establish a career in their sexual prime. What a warped world ! Which places invented systems above nature and does not support nature with nurture. This is one of many versions of the way we have demoted physical reality to intellectual farce, as if that somehow makes the world better, are we happy ? Knowledge that puffs up wont build up people, its just in the head/body, it doesn't create a better world. Or it would have already. Atheism is nothing new, it has always been the norm- us without God, we are good at looking down. Even the bible says He has placed the world in our hearts.
14. With more artificial contrivance comes less happy holistic human reality. I want a sexy group of friends. Yes I want a PS3 too ! But I don't want to be loved for things that I have. I want to be loved ! And I want to be able to love others the same. I can't stand myself if I don't.
15. We are all evolutionary, in the sense we want things to be different, we want to be better. That's why we sometimes miss the little beautiful things before our eyes, ourselves, the wonder of God's knitting and sewing and glueing and speaking. We need new eyes and ears, and not always those bifocals of a tunelling electron microscope, though they are cool appendages too. When will we it stop though, when we see what God is saying. That even the litlle things that make us up, are universes within universes, such that you are wondrous like the stars. My wondrousness. Your God. Humans are little when they fixate on the physical, with evolution or transcendance which misses the now that we have, the wondrousness of our God reflected in all that we are, is and will be. That wondrousness that is love and care putting us together in His image, like expresssing one's self in flesh and blood breath, our life. A real entity.

16. We are and we are not the centre of our universe ! Just look at the variery of coordinate systems, and the frames we transport into to conceive them. The only trick to this is within our "centre of the universe frame," we can empathise, feel with and maybe actually feel another person's state. So our me-icity can be other-icity too ! Though the light of our heavenly city is Jesus.
17. Every Thing is a Jesus Thing, Everything is a Jesus thing.
18. The universe of infinites has love at every level, something useful like an easter egg hunt. Yet even this infinity reveals the meaning of the infinity. That its not about its stuff, but that its pursuit is futile as its pursuit goes on forever. Its not about the knowledge, its about the knowledge of good and evil now, and this we already know, it is the truth that's permanent, despite the circular truth that is endless, that will lead nowhere but itself. To be truthful it will wear you out if you did it right. One man cannot know everything, except God The Three.
19. Is there a point to measuring and controlling what is there ?
20. Its a pretty negative evil and terrible thing to make people feel comfortable in their sin. Yet God will let you do what you want with the consequence of judgment here, now and then.
21. According to genesis the stars tell us that they tell us the time of things. Like the earth rotates around the sun around itself to hear and see meaning in the stars. What greater symbol of Jesus do we have than the sun which rises, filling the cold of the night. Like the scripture says: "In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat." (Psalm 19:5-6) What was Jesus saying when He said "While I am in the world, I am the light of the world" (John 9:5); "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)
Most people take Psalm 19 and say, oh the sun goes around the earth, that's scientifically nonsense (what is called geocentrism) the bible is crap. While it is poetic as much of the psalms is. Its only mathematically convenient to say that planets revolve purely around the sun. You could write a formula that shows that the earth is the centre, as a point of view, its just less elegant- but. Functionally the cosmos might be there, to to tell us that there is a time for everything. "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,..." (Genesis 1:14). This is certainly true of the sun and moon. What about astrology ? We do use the heavenly elements this way, for seasons, times and weather. Jesus even rebukes leaders, that they can use that cause and effect correlation analysis with the weather, yet are ignorant when using the same thinking regarding Him, maybe lacking clear "spiritual intelligence:"

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven. He replied,a "When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,' and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Jesus then left them and went away. (Matthew 16:1-2)

22. We do measure time by the elements ! Its usefulness and purpose for us often outweighs the supposed scientific frame of sun in the centre of what we've called a solar system- its a perspective frame issue, not science vs religion. Even our mapping of the universe, is partly aiming to measure time. Straight from Genesis. Materialists conforming to the mystical bible, excellent !

23. The formulaic patterns, representations of the cosmos for Christians are fine, all reflect God. Especially the sun being the centre. What better image of Christ that the world, like us, turns its face from the darkness to the light. Its a gospel message in itself. One that has symbolic scriptural precedents.

24. A "Reformed Christian" once claimed that it was the early bible folk that started astrology. And yes there are some patterns. Like when the sun comes up we might feel happier. Maybe the weather men are astrologers at this level of granularity. Its funny how many people actually suffer from "seasonal affective disorder" (related to the weather- not Christmas), we have a Canadian girl in our church, who is in Oz partly for this reason. What happens when Astrology patterns do match up with events on Earth ? When the sun follows a certain trajectory, yes it is spring. The more useful mathematics for us is actually in its trajectory relative to where we are on the planet and maybe not. Remember the sextant for direction on a ship. We now even create our own "stars" now for geomatic information systems, also applied in our gps and mobile phone gps devices. The wise men were following a "star" which stopped over Bethlehem, where Jesus was born.

25. While Descartes mind-body "I think therefore I am dualism," may not be a correct paradigm as others claim, "I move therefore I am," as the body and mind co-depend, it might help distinguish creation from creator, Actions from the mind of God ?

26. Some manifestations of the "Holy Spirit" in the bible include: Artistic gifts, kingly authority, evil (when gone) Saul, maybe life (when God "breathes" life into the "Adam" and the "Eve," which may share part of Adam's spirit separated-just an idea), The Spirit hovers over the water in creation, by the one Spirit given different gifts to serve God's people, fruit, awareness, judgment and conviction of sin, tongues of fire at Pentecost, these folk also speaking supernaturally in other languages.

27. "Mystical" was Calvin's understanding of the Christian faith. How else can we explain the amazing work of the Holy Spirit and the work of the blood of Christ ? Boraventure said the earth needs redemption too, that every creature is a divine word. That there is no difference between the sacred and the secular. Heath in "The Mystic Way of Evangelism," says we need to rid the church of its syncretistic tendency towards classism, racism and sexism.

28. Luther threw His ink pot at Satan. I had an encounter with the devil I believe in my youth. In my mind I was directly pressured by something external to myself in my mind (distinctly I felt i was not generating this and it was different to standard fleshy temptation and an evil force I felt was the source). It forced a choice between the world and everything I want rejecting Christ, or a harder life without what I wanted in Christ. This was the torturous option put me quite young. It troubled me for quite a while this moment and I know the decision then was hard, because I so loved happiness and to do everything I wanted for fun, I remember images of everything I would desire. This has haunted me for years. It was interesting that a friend had a related vision in her youth, of a difficult future laid out before her and actually negotiating it with God, where she even said to whom she thought was God, "can I really handle this ?"

29. Creator is separate from Creation. The point is made very strongly in Romans 1 Romans 1:19- says: since what may be known about God is plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities- his eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what is made, so that men are without excuse. (this passage might suggest an educational function in nature)...

It continues to describe how people rebel against God.

30. One of the saddest scriptures in the bible is John 1:10-11: He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him. He came into that which was his [Jesus'] own [Israel], but his own did not receive him.

Just imagine you make it, watch with hope and love, come to save them, the one's who should know better for their "spiritual superiority," wisdom, knowledge and understanding- the experts. And they reject you, do not acknowledge you, and even crucify you, hoping to rid the world of you, their creator and protector, then you rise again to show them you can't beat God down and win. But how sad ! What would God think of us rejecting His Son ?

The passage follows with a beautiful hope: John 1:12-13: Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or of a husband's will, but born of God.

31. In Ephesians the spiritual dimensions of the faith are magnified. We are told that there is a battle of cosmic proportions, likened to a war with a real enemy. There is a battle with dark powerful forces in this world and in the heavenly realms, which are not flesh and blood it says. It says we need to put on armour for protection in order to stand our ground: "truth, righteousness, readiness from the gospel of peace, faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. With this we're told to "Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests."

32. We look into a mirror darkly, then we shall see face to face. This scripture highlights a type of perception filter that we have. While we can see something of God's incredible love and presence. We don't see the final, finished, perfected work yet. This applies to ourselves and to the whole of creation. Over time we are changing, learning, growing and will be perfected by Christ. For now, we can have the Holy Spirit in what is a deposit, until He returns to finish things.

33. Ephesians reveals that God chose people before the creation of the World to be holy and blameless. We are told that we are blessed in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. This means that our earthly existence transcend perceived material existence. And the mystery of His purpose that God has revealed to us, to be put into effect when times have reached their fulfilment- to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, Christ. All is for His praise and glory.

34. Recently a number of sci-fi shows have tried to present a materialist version of past and spiritual events. These try to rationalise history and the supernatural through science and physical understandings, for example, Stargate understands ancient gods to be aliens, an idea that can be derived in some understandings of scripture, though many Christians try to rationalise these themselves calling the "Nephilim or Sons of God" human figures, interpreting "The Sons of men," who they took, or had progeny with, as non-believers.

35. The division between what is spiritual and "normal or everyday" experience seem to be highlighted in the shock, awe or experience of this when we somehow have "spiritual experiences" or see supernatural phenomena. This is because it seems to be unique among what is generally routine and similar. Similar shocks or curiousity happen though, when something non-spiritual happens that is unique. An example might be an Olympic event that happens only every four years. In interfaces with ghosts for example, actually reveals that the ghost has existed before and we have just become aware of it. Sometimes the shock reveals our lack of faith in scripture with an everpresence of entities, such as angels for example. God is also everpresent, it should not come as any surprise if He suddenly appears, though this might not be the everyday.

36. Everything is Spirit, because all is perception, and we are spirit too, Xians also being filled with the Holy Spirit. In a sense our body is possessed by our Spirit and Partly by the Holy Spirit. This is why posession by another demon might be considered a posession of something that is not its own.

37. Its a curious question, whether the Spirit breathed into the nostrils which gave us life, showed that our bodies were given as our or His posession by God at the creation of people. The question is, was the breathing life (seemingly a new Spirit) a separate act of creation to the creation of the body ? The other issue is, does the birth of a child mean God creates a new Spirit or does the human have the ability to create a new body and Spirit together ? Another variation would be that the child is a fusion of two parent Spirits that are combined and then broken from the first. Does this mean that while people are created in the image of God, that a child is created in the image of their parents ?

38. The curious scripture that our Spirit must return to God from the mud-body vessel -Is this the Holy Spirit or a personal life-spirit breathed into people at creation ?

39. The "spiritual" priority is less about activities we do, and more about knowing God, self and changing the heart. The bible places spirit and world, seemingly against each other, in what some consider a misleading Platonism in scripture. The world is extended to include "all the things in it," it is the desire of such that the bible might understand as "worldly." This might be placed in contrast to Jesus Christ, who it considers the meaning of all, the centre also having sovereignty over all things.

40. People have made the physical spiritual and made what was spiritual not to exist.

41. The need to prove things in science and learn about self shows human faith in the unknown as well as a lack of faith in the unknown.

42. Many claim that Christianity is eschatological, its all about "after death," or end things. This is partly true, its about the death of the world and universe as we know it. This "physical" earth and life is temporary. There is a second death after our mortal physical (dust to dust) death. Jesus speaks of something new to come yes. But as for now, in the mind of God, we are saved, if we believe in Jesus Christ and know Him personally through the Holy Spirit. Spiritual birth according to God, what is called being born again, is more than just being given a new life in God's mind. It is an eternal coverance and more than this giving possession of ourselves to God, as opposed to the posession of sin over us. This is more than being reborn in a mother's womb. It is to be a new creation in God's mind. The thing it generates is a new Spiritual identity. Even the names of people can be changed, when they are saved, or "born again." We are told that God has a new name for us all. It is called an everlasting name in the bible, which also means our current names are temporary too.

43. The organisational structure of the universe is hierarchical, if universe or cosmos is relevant this way at all. There are things we have control over and things we do not have control over. The hierarchy changes and is shared and has some mystery to it.

We are told we are a little below the angels, then later that we will judge the angels and be like the angels. We understand that all things in heaven and earth are under God's feet and specifically Jesus' now. In Isaiah 66:1 it says "Heaven is my [God] throne and the earth is my footstool. Where then is a house you could build for me ? And where is a place that I may rest ? Repeated in Acts 7:49, Matthew Henry says about this passage: "Next to the human nature of Christ, the broken and spiritual heart is his most valued temple."

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says:
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body..."

In Christ, humans essentially become deity, being able to be one with God, through Jesus Christ.

Kingdoms are spiritual. In the bible, Jesus says "My Kingdom is not of this world." This seems a little contradictory. Yet if we understand the Spiritual kingdom to be above earthly kingdoms, this means the earthly kingdom is Spiritual. This point is made in the bible where kings and leaders are appointed by God and also when they rebel against God or glorify themselves as Gods. Herod when He esteems himself as a god, dies and is eaten by worms. God does not treat self deification lightly on earth.

This is confused more, when we are told by Jesus, give unto Caesar what is Caesar's, give unto God what is God's. Jesus responds here, regarding taxes. It might be different in a democracy, for example some Mennonite Christians refusing to pay tax, because money is used for military spending in the US. The issue though is what belongs to who ? Off course we have to say the world and all that is in it is God's. Psalms 89:11 says, "The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it."

What I think it means is that some people have things- being a king for example, with this come other possessions such as the right to taxes and land- maybe authority over a place too. If you are under a king, or choose to be under a king, you must then give taxes. All people must give to God what is His, which is our everything. In the bible this is summarised as Loving God with our all and loving people as our selves, or as Jesus has loved us.

44. In our society we have split zones for doing things and God and church have their place. For example if you talk about God in a fun scenario this is considered inappropriate, though if people speak about the religion of pluralism or syncretism, or immorality, this is fine usually in a public forum, though is totally disrespectul to anyone who does not follow their religion. People sometimes emphaise the division of church and state. In the US its different it seems, its ok to speak about God and religion in any forum. What Australian society has done, is try to box God and externalise God as an inconvenient contrivance. This doesn't make God happy as you can imagine. He doesn't like being locked up in temples, or churches. His Spirit wants to live in us, with us, even in our hearts, all of us and to receive the love and glory He deserves as our creator and friend. He doesn't like being excluded, called an outcast or locked up as some kind of criminal in our hedonistic pluralist paganism. You wonder why Jesus liked to go to parties and hang out, and even say deep things when they might seem inappropriate, to those closest to Him. Truth is All is God's all are God's, there's no way to change this. While he gives people choice, personal freedoms and even power and authority in their domain, he expects back. To Him that is given more more will be expected, the scripture says.

Fortunately in Christ the "more" is met in the sacrifice, blood and love of Jesus Christ, in taking our sins off us, so we are not rejected by God and can know Him now. This by faith and following Him.

45. What about institutional religion. You will notice if you speak to people, that people want to dump the shackles of "institutions" and labels to their faiths. So now, people will say, "I don't really know what I am," or "I don't call myself anything," I just believe in being good and being a good person. But if God is real and they do not believe or follow Him, people are in a sense bad. The worst sin, which I am sick of repeating is to reject God, something we all do quite frequently. To reject one's maker and the creator of the universe is a terrible thing. So what of institutions ? Do you have to be in an institution to be spiritual ? No, monasticism and escape from the group or community is ok. People will say you must be in community. This is a new law that is not in scripture. What the bible says, is we have to love and serve one another. Our community, is The Universal Catholic Church of which all believers are a part, its centre is Jesus. And Paul says, blessed are they who believe, yet do not see, so clearly, we don't need to see God. And more than this, we have a God who is away for now, yet is everpresent in the Holy Spirit that believers have within them. He is still around and appears. The bible promises that when two or more are gathered in His name, Jesus will be there. Christians are also called the Body of Christ. What is the local body of Christ ? It is the group of believers that lives in your local community. This will be the next trend in church. Where rather than shopping for blessing or fad worship, people will start serving in their immediate area. The local church is the true "community," the Christian community of the future.

46. Territorial Spirits seem to exist. Regions have angels over (Daniel 10) them and some regions seem to have evil Spirits over them. There are areas in Melbourne where I pass, that my stomach physically turns. Its not because the place looks bad. There is something there. As soon as the car hits the area, my stomach turns, I feel oppressed. I've wondered if it were some childhood memory, but I think its more, like there is something oppressing the place. Daniel 10:13,21; 12:1, Michael is considered the protector of Israel, who will stand for Israel at the end. See:

Some people pray to angels for help. But the scripture says to pray only to Jesus and God for angelic help. Satan tempts Jesus in Matthew 4:6: "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' Some consider this a distortion of Psalm 91:11 & 12, yet it indicates that the angels are Jesus' angels. There is some sense of guardian angels in scripture, Jesus says:

"See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:10)

There are angelic hierarchies highlighted in scripture:

Satan can manipulate rulers and people. For example Ezekiel seems to speak of Satan, as "The King of Tyre," essentially that Satan is really in charge of the city and the King's actions. See: about Satan's power.

47. How do we know the mind of God ? Einstein and others, who like universal descriptions of reality, like some deist vision, with its distant impersonal God or naturalistic/humanistic vision, where there is no God, or follow that we are essentially God. Such materialism tries to mystify the universe by de-spiritualising it, taking away any sense of supernatural meaning behind everything and instead placing the ascent of knowledge, by one's own ratio of physical things, as the way of knowing and defining all "truth." A similar thing happens when people try to deify scripture as the interface between us and God, when the scripture is teaching us to have a personal interface with God. It speaks of something outside ourselves.

The bible might indicate, that to know the mind of God is impossible, it is says that My (God's) thoughts are above your thoughts, my ways are above your ways. Yet at the same time, we can know God personally, in fact, we can be one with Him, as Jesus prays for this, a perfect state of shalom or peace.

The essence of who He is, what is called the perfect likeness of God, is seen in Jesus Christ, God's Son. The mind of God is manifest here and this as seen in the bible. Where Jesus teaching and life is described. With this The Holy Spirit witnesses/testifies about Jesus Christ, meaning we can have direct connection with Him generally.

Being made in God's image as the bible claims, gives us a personal empathetic understanding of God, yet in this, we are corrupted. Romans 1 tells us that God's eternal power and divine nature are understood from the things He has created, especially ourselves (I would argue) yet we have disregarded this for our own creations in idols.

48. To be "Spiritual" you have to be Spiritual, and because we are spiritual that means we're all spiritual. To not be "spiritual" is a delusion, that which God tries to correct in Jesus His Son, The Truth. So if you think you are not Spiritual, you are being unnatural, unsustainable and resisting reality. As I always say, there is an easy way and a hard way. Most people opt for the hard one for some reason : )

49. We have access to God in prayer. Just talk to Him, He is everpresent and likes the attention. He promises that you will find Him when we seek Him with all our heart.

50. Spirituality is one's state of mind, and life. It is a conception of reality, state of being and living. If a person imagines they are a-spiritual, then they in their mind are a-spiritual. Spirituality is an acceptance and a knowing of a universe, that has God at its heart and head, and for the Christian this is Jesus, God's Son as the way to God the Father, The Ultimate Truth and meaning. All as Spirits, generally roaming around the universe is not spirituality, as this phenomena would just be things and matter. There is no sense of value or meaning to the things- they just are and more than that, they are in a confused soup, without purpose, drive origin or ways, there could also be no meaningful source of morality, love or purpose in this understanding.

To be spiritual, Paul says in Corinthians that folk need knowledge of God. Paul scolded the Corinthian Christians for their "unspiritual attitudes and conduct" (1 Corinthians 3:1-4). He explained that their problems were caused partly by some of them having too little knowledge of God's ways. He wrote: "Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame" (1 Corinthians 15:34).

This knowledge we argue is found in the bible and also through the Holy Spirit directly and in interpreting the bible, as the scripture says, The Spirit will teach you all things. It is most definitely in the bible, is experiential and involves connection with a personal and living God who is present and purposeful.

We are so valued in this scheme, that despite our state, who we are, God loves us, demonstrating and proving it with His own blood. The blood of our God ! The greatest act of love ever shown. That is our worth.

John 1:12-13 says that ?He has given us a right to become the children of God, not by a human's will but born of God. This is our spiritual birth or rebirth. And the body is part of this, because His Spirit communes with ours, inside this body, the temple of the Holy Spirit.
