Prologue:
A full moon was risen above as Michael sat in the tree tops surveying the surrounding land. His white wings shimmered silver in the star light of the night as he gazed upon the unknowing town. Michael's mission: to gain his full wings. The ones he respectfully owned now were beautiful beyond measure, but he wanted the wings of a guardian; wings that spanned farther than seven feet on either side of him, much larger than the ones that went to his finger tips now. The only way to do this was to prove himself. He had to prove himself to Gabriel, to his fellow angels, to the other guardians, and do the Heavens, that he was worthy of this position. Still gazing out at the night, he smelled the poison of burning life, the smoke of fire filling the woods with the stench of death.
"Michael," a strong voice called from a few branches below. He looked down to see a dirty blond head bobbing in between the rich green needles of the pine, till gold eyes met with his own jade ones.
"Someone is close by. They aren't close enough for me to read their mind, but I feel their aura and it's not good." Michael lifted his nose to the passing wind and inhaled deeply. Holding back the gagging feeling that came to him, he coughed out the noxious scent that overflowed the night air.
"Trademark," Michael said, "Sage is close by." The blond lifted his nose, and then scrunched it in discontent, before giving a brief nod in agreement. The two men leapt off the branches, using their wings (the blond with the same as Michaels) to gracefully glide down to a clearing near by where two others waited. The two waiting were women, one with midnight black hair and blue eyes, the other a contrasting bright red curls and shamrock green eyes both with the same shimmering wings as the men.
Michael landed with the blond near by, when suddenly a rock the size of a soft ball was hurled across the clearing, hitting the blond in the stomach
"Ow! Hey? What was that for?!"
"That was for leaving without telling me where you were going!"
"What about Michael? He was gone for a while too! That's where it was! I was going to get him!"
"Yes Ardin, but you see," Michael said, "I told Whisper and Genesis what I was doing." The two ladies nodded their head in harmony. Ardin stared at the dark haired beauty with great intent before she broke his concentration.
"Read my mind all you want Ardin," Genesis said, "but we're telling the truth."
"Well you didn't have to throw that rock at me," Ardin said sourly. He rubbed his stomach in mock pain.
"Alright, let's get down to the real reason we're here," Whisper intervened. Like Michael, his three companions were there for the same reason. They all wanted to be guardians.
"Well it's pretty obvious Sage is close due to that grotesque smell," Genesis commented, crinkling her nose in discontent.
"Way to say it Captain Obvious," Ardin joke, imitating a soldier solute while crossing his eyes. Genesis stuck her tongue out and crossed her arms pouting.
"Now then children, let's play nice," Whisper said in a very mom-like tone.
"Fine. But only if he'll stop trying to read my mind! I can just feel him, like, tugging at the edge of my brain and it's messing me up! I've got a boundary all around us, set up like a spider web. Anything similar to us goes through it and I'll know. Of course, I won't be able to tell if Mr. Let-Me-See-Who-I-Can-Distract-I-Can-Read-Whoever's-Mind-I-Want over there keeps tampering with me!" Slyly, Michael walked up behind Ardin in the middle of Genesis' long winded speech. He saw the scene play out in his head and all he to do was wait for the opportune moment. He counted down to the precise moment she was done and smacked Ardin on the back of the head.
"Yeah dude, listen to what the woman says," Michael said sarcastically. Both boys laughed in a testosterone fit while Genesis gave them both a death glare that would have sent the devil himself cowering in the corner. Slowly, they both quit laughing and looked sheepishly at the ground creating somewhat of an awkward silence. Whisper crossed her arms, looking away as she tried to stifle a laugh.
"I'll throw a rock a you too Michael, and maybe this time I'll aim a little lower than your stomach!"
"Ooooh," the guys said at the same time, covering themselves.
"That's cold," Ardin said.
"No, that's probably saving the world by separating the testosterone twins," Whisper said matter-o-factly.
"Well you know, if she actually threw the rock instead of using her mind I bet it wouldn't have gotten two feet from her," Ardin teased, laughing until he was unexpectedly hit in the back of the head with another rock.
"Hey," Ardin shouted. Michael outright hooted where as Whisper just shook her head. Ardin slowly turned his head around, death glare in full swing, back to Genesis who looked at him triumphantly, holding another rock in her hand.
"Ok guys, look, we're not going to get anything done if you two keep at this. If Sage is close by then there is no doubt he'll find us. Now lets get moving and get set up for this mission or we're all going to end up like them." Everyone looked at Whisper. It was always odd when she actually took control with her being so quiet and all, and even though she was the head female angel of the mission, but no one objected.
"Wait, wait, wait," Michael said before they got out of the clearing, "Everyone retract." He had already had withdrawn his wings, and one by one the other followed suit. Slowly, the gleaming, white silver wings withdrew back into their bodies as if nothing was ever there.
On the other side out the mountain, a figure stood beneath a tall evergreen crouched down to the ground. His inky hair matched his wings that were tattered by strong in appearance. The red of the flame in his hand as he burned a plant, creating a sickly smell, matched the red tips of his hair. He smirked as he cocked his head to the side, listening intently.
"Now lets get moving and get set up for this mission or we'll end of like them." Them being him, Sage, and his two cohorts Shadow and Vail, and his mate for life Camber. Gradually the sage that burned in his hand disintegrated and he dumped the ashes on the ground as he looked up at the moon. As if appearing out of no where, a man emerged out of the darkness beside Sage, his hair ebony hair streaked with grey, his stone eyes the same color as the moon.
"Shadow," Sage acknowledged. Shadow nodded his head and put his hands in the pockets of his stone washed jeans.
"They're close by," Shadow said with a husky voice, skipping straight to the point.
"I know, I heard. Seems as if they are on a mission, guardian I suppose. We might need to change that. Don't really need any more of those in the world, now do we?" Shadow smiled devilishly.
"No we wouldn't want that. And for God's sake Vail put on a hat or something! Your hair is blinding me!" A blond walked up to the dark headed men, smiling with malevolence seeping out.
"Maybe I'll just keep it this way if it's aggravating God so much." Shadow considered his and shook his head in agreement. Of the three, Vail stood out the most. He had bright blond hair that was almost white with golden eyes. This was his power. He could deceive anyone into thinking he was good and trustworthy, when honestly Vail is the last one you want close to you.
"I wonder who could be behind me," Sage said. A pair of while hands stood out against the black of his hair, covering his eyes. Lips the color of a pale rose brushed his neck after which a woman pressed on his shoulders, flipping over him gracefully, almost acrobatically. Sage grabbed her and pulled her back into him, kissing her.
"Camber," he said smiling. "I was beginning to wonder if you were ever going to come back."
"I'll always come back for you," she said seductively, cause Sage to smile at her once again. Vail let out a loud, disruptive huff to show his discontent.
"What is your problem brother dearest?"
"You two being all lovey dovey and what not. It makes me want to throw up or something. Plus, what am I supposed to do while I watch my little sister hand all over some guy in front of me? If it were any other idiot I would have shredded him by now."
"You're only older than my by a year!"
"Yes, but its still a year. That's 365 days."
"Lighten up," Shadow said as he nudged Vail. "She's old enough to take care of herself. Plus, you Sage don't you?"
"Yes Vail, you trust me don't you?" The air was suddenly thick with malice. Vail and Sage went back farther that most remember.
During the days of light, Sage and Vail were on a mission together to gain their guardian wings. They did everything they could to get their wings, until one day Sage decided he didn't' want to anymore. He was tired of being moral, upright, and respectable all the time and also tired of babysitting people that didn't want to be watched out for.
One day , Sage relieved Vail of his duty for a while. They were watching a seventeen year old girl, Adelaide, bent on suicide. Once Vail was gone, Sage sat for a while before she made what would be her final attempt at ending her life. She sat under a jack pine tree, native to her location, and slit her wrists over and over in one final attempt to end her misery. She had escaped to that location moments ago after her new step father, taking the place of her late father, had come to her asking and making her do things that only a husband should once again. Vail had gotten back in time to watch tilt her head back smiling, taking her last breath.
In response to Sage's carelessness, both angels were cast from heaven, sent into lingo between heaven and hell. Not an angel, not yet a demon. A fallen angel. A disgrace of both worlds.
Vail stood there for a while, eyes storming staring at Sage who looked back a Vail with the same intensity.
"Yes," Vail replied with strain, breaking the momentary silence, "I trust you." Famous. Last. Words.
Comments:
I ♥ angel stories and I can't wait to see how this one unfolds. I also write about angels. ;) There are a few mistakes you should fix, but nothing too major. Anyway, keep writing. If no one else cares for this stroy I will.
thank you :) i'm not all that great with my grammar.... as my dad says i "destroy the english language"... lol and yeah this is my first angel one so i'm just kinda winging things at the moment xD
Don't fret. I'm not all that great with English either. I make-up words and sometimes use Spanish words for the ones I don't know. Anyway, since this is your first one I won't get all over-angelical. :)
muchly appreciated ^.^
