Wings [Part 6]

written by: Iggyhere

Luna just couldn't stop crying. She felt so alone, and when she felt alone she thought about Dante, and if she could, called him. She had only needed Dante's love; there was no need for anything else… But now there was no one to turn to… No one to cry out to for help… All this crying… It was all for nothing, Luna knew this, but she couldn't get herself to stop. After gaining some control over herself, she gathered the courage to get up and walk over to her window.

Butterflies. So peaceful, flying around, carelessly going through their daily lives. Did they know how small, how fragile, how beautiful they were? Luna often wondered if they were, to someone else, small and fragile.

But Luna could only think of one person who could, but she didn't believe in him anymore.

That's when she heard the gunshot.

She raced down the stairs to find her mother lying on the floor of the kitchen, her stepfather's hunters' shotgun nearby, in puddle of blood. As shocked as she was, she almost laughed.

Her mother's face had a new hole in it.

Lights ran along the wall. Headlights. It was her stepfather pulling into the driveway. Luna went back up the stairs, and down the hall, trailing her hand along the wall as she walked into her parent's room. She went to the cabinets in the corner of the room, opened them and pulled out a handgun that her stepfather kept in case of a burglar. She knew for a fact that he always kept it loaded.

There was a loud crash from the kitchen downstairs. He was home. She had to do this quickly. It was an odd, feeling the cold metal against her head. She felt she should be afraid… but she felt nothing… just empty… All she needed to do is pull… And it would all be over… She could hear her stepfather moving about in the kitchen, probably trying to find his phone to call an ambulance.

But was it really that easy? Would she like what she found? No! She couldn't think about it, it would only stop her from doing what she wanted. But did she really want it? "Damn it! Shut up, shut up…" Luna inhaled deeply and thought about Dante, how she would never hold him, never hear his words… A whimper escapes her lips as she the thoughts went through her head and she made a decision.

She pulled the trigger.
