Wings [Part 7]

written by: Iggyhere

Luna gasped for breath, her heart felt like it wanted to explode out of her chest. She hadn't taken the safety off. God, she couldn't even pull off her own death! She released the safety, making sure the gun was loaded, when the door to her parent's room opened. Her stepfather walked in, bloody shot gun in his hands, a confused look on his face.

"Luna? Your mother… What happened…?"

Luna shook her head, words refusing to come out of her mouth.

He spotted the gun in her hand and a look of anger crossed his face. "What are you doing with that?" He held out his hand.

She almost gave it to him, too.

But then she realized why he was being so careful. He thought that she had done it, and she had a gun… He was afraid of her for once. And she liked the feeling, being in control.

He came closer holding out his hand and Luna shook her head once again, she still didn't know what to do…

Another step, Luna raised the gun slightly, not pointing it, but ready if she needed it. That shotgun didn't look too nice in his hands…

Suddenly he dashed forward, grabbing the gun just as she pulled off a shot. He looked down at his chest and then back at her. "Luna… I'm sorry." He fell to the floor and Luna found out why. He had pushed the gun up and while grabbing it, moved forward into its path. The bullet had obviously come into contact with his heart.

He was dead.

Sarah spoke up. "Good job. You killed him."
"Mom, what happened to her?"

"She lied to you, all this time. I had to do something."

"You… You killed her!"

"No, no, no… We killed her."

"And Dante? Did you kill him too?!"

"Luna, Luna, Luna… I am you."

Suddenly the images flashed through her head…

"What are you doing?" Dante asked. She didn't answer, she just shoved him with all of her might, and he yelled as he crashed through the glass…

She grabbed the shotgun off of the fireplace stand and walked into the kitchen. Her mother looked at her, and then sighed. "So you know…" The smell of gunpowder fills the air and the house seems so silent after the loud gunshot.

"Now there's only one thing left to do…"

Luna nodded, pulling herself together, and returned to her original position with the gun. This time it was much easier.

"Goodbye, Luna."

"Goodbye, Sarah."

There were two clicks then silence.

Blinding lights, loud noises, clean smells… She was in a hospital. She heard voices… "…bullet grazed her brain; the friction prevented it from exiting. She hasn't got much time left. Hey, she's awake, Jerry, we need more monkey juice over here!" She felt something tickle her arm… and she was out.

Silence… Was she dead? No… Not yet, still in a hospital… She was in a bed, alone, hooked up to machine. She looked around and spotted some flowers by the open window to her side. Butterflies populated the buds of the plant. Luna's vision was fading, but she managed to read the card:

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue.
Death is your chance,
To start life anew.

A loud droning sound came from the monitor and Luna couldn't breathe. She barely had time to watch them leave the flowers as she slipped into darkness…

And went to join the butterflies…

Forever.
