The Rough Draft of "Rain, Infernus Academy Book One"- Prologue

"So, Master, should we allow the girl to join the Academy?" the woman at the chair left of the head of the long, dark, wooden table where the head mentor of Infernus Academy sat.
"As you have seen, Rane, the girl holds the power that even she does not know she possesses.The answer is evident. She will not be able to harness the vast power that she is capable of. Enroll her." His face was stern.
"Master! If she is Turned, then she can use that power for Their cause!." A small woman with tannish gray hair at the end of the table spoke.
"I am certainly aware of that, Rebecca!" he said. "This child's power could also be used for good, maybe to destroy the cause of the Dark Ones. We cannot let this child's potential just slip away."
"She will be uncontrollable if-"
"I know that, Rebecca!" His voice reflected off the stone walls, catching all of the mentors by a cold surprise.
"Osric." Rane coaxed calmly. "We should compromise. I, as Esmeralda's guardian, agree with you," her blue eyes turned to an even sterner form than they were before. "However, Esmeralda should be held under a careful eye at all times. Our luck is that the Dark Ones have become more active and powerful as she has become of age to attend Infernus, which is fourteen." the woman known as Rane turned towards the Headmaster. "With but a sign of their presence, Esmeralda should be protected at all costs. Her potential is great. She should not be denied a proper education because of her power. Yet, she should not know how powerful she truly is until she is truly ready."
Osric bowed his great head. "You would know what is best for the girl since you are her guardian."
Another man stood up near the far end of the table, his skinny figure seeming to almost reach the ceiling though it was several feet above them. "But should your plan fail, Rane." He said towards the woman.
"Hauk, we will not fail. Esmeralda will have multiple risks but with the Academy's protection-" she stood up and looked Hauk directly in his unnatural blue eyes. "She will be safe." Rane turned to Osric and curtsied so low that her backside touched her heel. "Now with further ado, I need to inform Esmeralda to prepare herself. I should take my leave. Blessed Be." With those words spoken, Rane strode out the double doors.
A long silence passed after Rane Wenham had left the Grand Hall before Osric spoke. "Mentors." The Headmaster's enormous figure stood, his height towering over even Hauk Danville. His thick hair was a color of deep red, a frizzy, matching beard fell just to his chest. "Rane is correct. We begin classes in a few days. It is time you all left to prepare. Blessed Be and the greatest luck to all of you." Osric Infernus nodded his farewell and walked outside of the Grand Hall, taking his commanding presence with him. Soon after, all the other Mentors followed and prepared themselves for what would not be an uneventful year at Infernus Academy.
