For years I've depended on you
Thinking it had been you that had made me strong
I forgot all I survived before we met
Before we fell in love
I used to have a fortress
I'd erected so many walls to protect myself
From everyone, everything
I was sheltered but I was safe
Then you came along
You demolished my barrier with your understanding
You saw through me and I used you as my new shield
You were my protector and I was helpless
I forgot how to live for myself
How to think for myself
How to be myself
I know that it has taken much too long
But I finally see the error of my ways
I remember who I used to be
And what I was capable of
I am the phoenix rising from the ashes of my savaged youth
I am stronger than I was
And I'm gaining momentum with every breath
I am thankful for your support, love and understanding,
Now it's time I made it one my own
You looked at me and saw the Valkyrie within
Now its time for me stand tall, head held high
Time for me to walk with you by my side instead of leading the way
It's time for change!

This is very good. It shows what many can go through. I think there could have been something between the part I quoted and the last two stanzas, but that's not me to decide.
=)
Thanks for the help! Sometimes you get so wrapped in a piece that you don't see the errors! Glad you liked it!
Ohh... and err is the word, but I do appreciate your help!
Valkyries were tainted beings
Valkyries were female deities responsible for bringing the most heroic warriors who died in battle to Valhalla. They were strong, fierce beings who scavenged battlefields. It is their inner strength to which I was referring.
The Valkyries were servants of a tyrant (Odin) although strong they lacked any of their own judgment. They were mere puppets for an oppressor of the Jotnar.
There is one version for whatever it is worth, where a Valkyrie has human qualities such as judgement. But of course this is opera I am talking about here.
While I'm partial to Puccini, I am a fan of Wagners Die Walkure and the Ring Cycle. I didn't think anyone else would be familiar!
totally relate to it right now:)
I like it, it's very inspiring and I thought I saw two possible versions of perception of your writing. Very well done.
Thank you very much!
I love seeing how the Muse works in others. Yours is quite lively! :) Love the imagery you worked into your prose.
I wish I could write just as well. Now that I've learned what truly makes a Valkyrie, I wanna sigh and say "I've been there before." Love your sweet insanity. :)
I like authenticity of your feelings because i see the resent at the protection of a life without companionship compromised but the joy in finally finding a love that not only makes you stronger but allows you the freedom to be your own person as well it's beautiful
Thank you! I love that you see all of that in my writing
