Exhaustion

written by: Sweet Insanity

After a long exhausting day Gwen leaned against her front door balancing her purse and packages as she attempted for the third time to fit her key into the lock. With a sigh of success she all but fell into the house and dropped the bags on the floor. Too tired to put anything where it belonged she took the few perishables to the refrigerator and decided to leave the rest for tomorrow. On her way to the bedroom she tripped on the purse she had dropped and cursed softly as she caught herself before she hit the floor. She made her way to the unlit bedroom and all but slid out of her clothes and into the protective folds of her oversized comforter and 2 extra brightly colored blankets. Naked, warm and safe, Gwen snuggled into her pillows with her eyes closed and could almost feel the tension and stress of the day melt from her skin as it was replaced with calm relaxation. As she took her last conscious breath, she felt as though she was being caressed by the soul mate she had yet to meet. She could almost feel his lips as she drifted into the silent emptiness of sleep.

She woke up with a start in the pitch-black room, barely managing to keep the scream that was clawing her throat at bay. Her heart begged to escape her chest. Tears burned out of her eyes with a vengeance as she gasped for every ounce of air. After a few moments her mind began to clear and she fought to regain composure. It was going to be another exhausting day.
