Missing you

"Just two more hours until he comes home." Tessa thought as she threw another log into the fireplace and enjoyed the hiss and crackle as sparks took flight. She lazily stretched then glanced at the clock and sighed with frustrated anxiety. Tessa melted into the couch cushions, snuggled into her afghan, and picked up her latest romance novel. When the two main characters in her book shared their first kiss she glanced at the clock again and impatiently blew her hair out of her eyes. When the couple began to argue, Tessa glared at the clock showing an hour's wait, and began to doze as she burrowed deeper into the blanket.

Ryan was exhausted after working two jobs. While he drove home, he blasted music in hopes of clearing his mind from the day's experiences. After two songs all he could think of was getting to Tessa. Every few hours, when he asked himself why he was working another 14 hour day, he remembered their dreams: house, a wedding, a future. Thoughts of their lives together carried him to her door where he let himself in.

He found her curled up on the couch, nestled under blankets, and deep in sleep. He stood in the doorway just watching as her chest slowly rose and fell under the blankets. Tessa with her long brown hair dressed in sweats and a tank top caused his heart to beat faster just by looking at her. He went into the bedroom and changed into his pajamas and walked back into the living room to retrieve her.

Ryan slid one arm under her knees and the other around her shoulders and carried her to the bed. As he laid her down he kissed her temple and climbed in after her. "I love you" Ryan whispered as he wrapped his arm around Tessa's waist and spooned her body. He felt the tensions of the day dissolve and melt off his body. He was home.
