Ambiguous Pronouns

written by: OurSacredHonor

Whenever you write "you" I always assume you mean me. But clearly this can't be true in all cases because a Writer writes the word "you" with a thousand different faces. Yet we all misconstrue our supposed truth to convince ourselves that I am "you". Especially when the subject matter is particularly enticing. Blinded by the influence of the stage lighting. It makes you do funny things, like believe what you want and never see. The pronoun's ambiguity is a mask and a costume. Every reader is an actor or actress who is offered the opportunity to don that garb but for a few moments as they act out their interpretation of the "play" before them. Stories like these are reenacted in the mind like Shakespeare is in theaters. Words like bullets can run astray and hit strangers. No matter how carefully aimed some words just never find their mark. Even the sniper's eye can fail at times if the target is no where in sight. I have written a million different words about more people than I care to count. People hardly ever read the right words. If I wrote one thousand poems about the girl of my dreams and in one in the middle I gave up on her, that would be the one poem she would discover. Everyone wants to be the lover of another. I could make your dream come true for a minute or two, but it would all just be a ruse. Meant to make you think, more likely to confuse. I shouldn't make your escape this easy, but you're not Houdini.

I miss you more than you'll ever know.
You were my favorite but to you I'm a joke.
I never told you how I really felt.
You never let me explain before I left.
I write fiction, and for it, you hate me.
You never let me provide an explanation.

A line or two may be about you and a handful of others too. But don't get confused, after all it's just the truth, so ask the question "Why?" before you ask me "Who is 'You'?"

I still find this so amazing, it's like some how you were able to write everything that I thought about "you" down. Oh the abilities of a writer!
