Acushna's Fate (sacrifice)

written by: Lokisenna

A child was born on the night of the blood moon with in the year of the wolf. This was considered a sign from the elders that the child was meant for damnation. The child would only bring disease and hunger. So the young baby was condemned to Astroth. Astroth was a forest in which the devious wolves lingered. No one would dare enter the forest in fear for there lives. Back in the ancient times wolves where known as Lycans and they towered in height. They were considered dangerous, cunning, and devious. They were not to be trusted. The young child was left at the edge of the forest on a crisp fall night. The villagers assumed she would be devoured by the giant creatures. Little did they know that an old wise woman by the name Omi lived with in the forest.

Omi used to live in a village near the forest as a child and knew all the horrible tales of the Lycans who would feast on the entrails of young children. However one day Omi traveled with in the forest unknowingly while playing. When she finally realized where she was, night had come and swept over the land, like a blanket of darkness. Omi had traveled deep within the forests grasp and seemed like she would never escape. Then in a gasp she saw a blur circling around and around almost like it was trying to understand what she was. Terrified she fell to the ground and embraced her knees to her chest and closed her eyes. With a sudden motion she was taken by the creature that had been circling her. Omi awakened in a den with a large pack of Lycans. The pups were bigger than her so she felt quite intimidated. However she grew to learn that the Lycans in which her people had taught her to fear where taking care of her. These large creatures were kind, cunning and understanding. Omi over the years learned to listen to the wind, and to the sigh of the mountain. She grew to practice the natural art of magic. Through the silent words spoken by nature she gained wisdom, understanding, and spiritual enlightenment. Omi believed in the triple moon goddesses Selene, Hecate, and Artemis and in Mother Nature.

Omi was wondering around the edge of the forest in hopes to find the herb sage for the Ancient Rite Of Passage. Suddenly Omi could hear a child's faint cries. As she moved closer to the cries, Omi knew that this was no normal child. Omi gazed down at the child that had been abandoned. There was a warning sign around her neck speaking of her birth. Omi took the child and whispered

"You shall been known as Acushna. You shall be the Mistress of Wolves."

With that Omi took the child and taught her the ways of goddesses and nature. Acushna over the years grew into a stunning young woman that could entice any man. Acushna grew up with the wolves for hers brothers and the mighty crows as her sisters. She learned to respect and honor nature and all its creatures. Omi told Acushna about the other mortals of the land. How they assume and fear many things including Acushna's brothers.

Eighteen years have past and Omi now was a withered flower. Omi knew her time was drawing near. She summoned Acushna and spoke in a soft tone;

"My child Acushna, I must speak with you. Soon I shall return to the Earth in which I came. You have a unique gift my daughter. I have just realized in this past year what you have been blessed with. You have the gift of the Moon Goddesses and the Sight of Truth. You are now 18 and are able to wield nature itself. The Moon Goddess Artemis has blessed you with stunning beauty, Hecate has blessed you with Wisdom, and Selene has blessed you with tolerance and understanding. You also are able to see the truth in all matters. I have long trained you to fulfill your title as Mistress of Wolves. You are now the protector of this forest and of the creatures that dwell within it. Know that I will always be with you and that you are loved by all. Blessed Be."

Her eyes now closed and with a final sigh she was gone. Acushna however was not sad for she knew Omi was where she belonged.

A year had past since beloved Omi died. Acushna continued to train and learn to control her new found gifts. When one night as she lay in a bed of flowers she remembered the story Omi had told her as a child.

Fenris The Giant Wolf

Fenris was the He is the eldest child of Loki and the giantess Angrboda. The gods learned of a prophecy which stated that the wolf and his family would one day be responsible for the destruction of the world. They caught the wolf and locked him in a cage. Only the god of war, Tyr, dared to feed and take care of the wolf.
When he was still a pup they had nothing to fear, but when the gods saw one day how he had grown, they decided to render him harmless. However, none of the gods had enough courage to face the gigantic wolf. Instead, they tried to trick him. They said the wolf was weak and could never break free when he was chained. Fenrir accepted the challenge and let the gods chain him. Unfortunately, he was so immensely strong that he managed to break the strongest fetters as if they were cobwebs.
After that, the gods saw only one alternative left: a magic chain. They ordered the dwarves to make something so strong that it could hold the wolf. The result was a soft, thin ribbon: Gleipnir. It was incredibly strong, despite what its size and appearance might suggest. The ribbon was fashioned of six strange elements: the footstep of a cat; the roots of a mountain; a woman's beard; the breath of fishes; the sinews of a bear; and a bird's spittle.
The gods tried to trick the wolf again, only this time Fenrir was less eager to show his strength. He saw how thin the chain was, and said that was no pride in breaking such a weak chain. Eventually, though, he agreed, thinking that otherwise his strength and courage would be doubted. Suspecting treachery however, he in turn asked the gods for a token of good will: one of them had to put a hand between his jaws. The gods were not overly eager to do this, knowing what they could expect. Finally, only Tyr agreed, and the gods chained the wolf with Gleipnir. No matter how hard Fenrir struggled, he could not break free from this thin ribbon. In revenge, he bit off Tyr's hand.
Being very pleased with themselves, the gods carried Fenrir off and chained him to a rock called Gioll) a mile down into the earth. They put a sword between his jaws to prevent him from biting. On the day of Ragnarok, Fenrir will break his chains and join the giants in their battle against the gods. However Fenris was not evil as the gods had thought.
They only chained him to a rock because they feared him. Omi told Acushna that Fenris was still chained to the rock in the runes of Tratotit.

Acushna had always wondered if she could free Fenris. Her curiosity always got the best of her. She decided to leave Astroth to visit Fenris. She ventured deep with the runes of Tratotit and gazed upon the most enchanted looking giant wolf. Ask she walked a little closer his giant amber eyes glanced in her direction, and he spoke in a trembling voice

"You are the Mistress of Wolves. Why do you come here child?"

Acushna was surprised he knew who she was. As she walked closer Fenris opened his mouth with a yawn. At first she was drawn back by his sharp fangs but quickly proceeded on.

"I have come to help set you free. I must know what to do."

"Young girl you're too weak to even loosen my chains. The only way you can break the enchanted chains you must gain power and learn the art of alchemy. Then you must kill the dwarfs who made this wretched chain. Only then will I be free."

"I will set you free my lord. I will return."

With that Acushna flew back to Astroth on one of the Mighty Crows. She trained for hours on end everyday, never stopping.

3 years later:

Acushna was now certain she was strong enough to break the spell, but first she had to kill the dwarfs. The first 5 were easy but the last one took almost all her strength. After resting for a week she took a Mighty Crow back to Tratotit. Little did Acushna know a mighty hunter was going to slay all the Lycans. He held the dagger know as Gastespher. That dagger was the only think that could kill Acushna. Acushna was the reincarnate of the original priestess/Mistress of Wolves.
As she ventured to where Fenris laid covered in chains.

"I have returned my lord and I have killed the dwarfs."

He said in a growling voice.

"You must leave now. Foolish girl a hunter has gone to Astroth to kill all the Lycans."

Acushna was shocked, but decided to set Fenris free first.

With that all the chain broke and Fenris was free. He roared and headed for the forest to protect his brothers.

"Foolish girl hurry only you can save them."

She was able to teleport herself to the forest. She saw how the forest was burning and there were dead Lycans on the ground only 3 but still. She was supposed to protect them. She knew the rest of the Lycans were heading for the Wolfir Temple for protection.
There standing in front of her was a tall knight with the dagger

"Maiden you should not be in here leave now and get out of my way."

She stood in front of him again.

"I will not let you slay the Lycans. I am Acushna the Mistress Of Wolves. I will not let you harm them."

"I have no coral with you. Get out of my way or you shall die with your Lycan brethren."

Acushna still would not move. He raised the dagger and charged at her.

Acushna used her magic to place a shield to stop him but it didn't hold for very long. She then teleported herself to the Wolfir Temple. Blue flames grew strong in the pillars of wolves. On the Top rows stood the Lycans. Acushna placed her strongest field around the temple. She could feel him coming closer and closer. He could smell the stench of death that followed him. Acushna could hear his heart beating.
He was now outside the temple. However he walked right through her strongest shield. This shocked her but still she held her ground. He came closer.

"I will give you one more chance, leave now and I will spare you."

Acushna planted her feet and awaited her destiny. She was going to give it all she has. Fenris the soared in and stood on the largest pillar. The hunter was to focused on you to notice though.

"I am not going anywhere. I do not fear you nor do I intend on giving up."

With that the hunter grabbed Acushna around the neck by one hand. He raised the dagger and held it to her neck. She was not afraid though.

"You may kill me but my blood will save the Lycans and destroy you. By my death I will invoke my last strength and allow my brothers to live. It would appear that the true beast is in humanity and not in the creatures you blame."

She could feel the blade dig deep in the side of her neck, yet she still held her head high. Acushna felt the blood flow and with her last breath she spoke these final words;

"Let this be the day that all of humanity see the true nature of darkness and what it will turn you into. I may die but my message will live on in the eyes of the wolves."

With that she bleed dry and fell to the ground. Fenris Roared and devoured the hunter. The other large Lycans turned into normal sized wolves thanks to her blood. Acushna died to save the thing she treasured most and now wolves roam the Earth free thanks to her sacrifice.

The End
