Serena Chapter 2 - The Decision

written by: Sweet Insanity

Serena jumped up and attempted to tidy her already spotless room. It was times like these she hated maids. All she wanted to do was to clean and use some of her pent up energy while she cleared her mind.

"I have all of this... passion! I'm a fire sign and I'm begging for a release from this planned and organized life I've forced myself into. I can't please everyone and in trying to do so, I'm not pleasing anyone, especially myself. It's time I stopped trying!" Serena slammed her dresser drawer and turned to remake her neat as a pin bed. "I know others will be shocked and disappointed, no one could be more surprised than myself, but what's right is right. Every part of me is screaming for escape! It's time to follow my instincts before I loose more of myself than I already have. " Serena finished with the bed and looking around realized there was nothing else to do but pace. "They'll try to talk me out of it and knowing myself I'll let them. I'd do anything to save them an ounce of pain, which is probably how I managed to get in this position to begin with. Not that I'm blaming them. My life thus far has been of my own making, for the most part. I'm a strong independent woman now, not the mouse of a girl I've been. I won't be shy or sheltered anymore, or worse depend on others to tell me what to do. I'm new, I'm improved and I'm breaking out!

By this time the sun was setting behind Geller Woods and the shadows throughout the kingdom were growing. Serena quickly picked up the quill before her resolve had a chance to dissolve. She wrote a quick explanation of her departure and told her family not to blame themselves, that she needed to live her life and that she'd miss them terribly. She told them she'd try to send word whenever possible, and that they shouldn't look for her. Serena rolled the parchment and stamped it with her royal seal and left the letter on her bed. She then took out her backpack and neatly folded clothes to get the most out of her limited space. She tied a rolled blanket to the top of the sack, grabbed a nearby lantern and decided that she had better sneak down to the kitchen and grabbed some food for her journey. Serena had no idea of where exactly she was going or how long it would take for her to get there. All she knew was that she would never be able to forgive herself if she didn't take this chance, her first and maybe only chance.
