The warm coffee tingled on my lips. I wasn't really one for coffee, but when she was around I just seemed to like it. Plus when anyone else tried to make one, well it just wasn't right. I sipped it attentively. It'd been so long. A distant memory, as close as life, as real as ever, but a fairy tale. A rumour, a lie, the truth. something I wanted to hide, but wanted the whole world to know. Never again, that's what I'd said, what I promised myself. Yet here I was, and she was right back in my life. It wouldn't be easy to trust again. But it was Katie, it would be like before, and I wouldn't be able to hold it all in around her. She'd know everything, that's how it always seemed to work, no matter what I told myself. She knew it all. Maybe that's what I wanted, maybe I couldn't do it all without her, and maybe I would never have to try.
"Katie," she looked at me, her eyes red although no tears had fallen, well not that I'd seen. She'd kept it all in, as usual. "promise me, promise me Katie,"
"I promise," she cut in. I closed my eyes, I could see everytime we'd ever laughed together, every time we talked, every time we said goodbye, every time, she lied. I whipped my eyes open
"are you ok?" she asked. I nodded.
"Fine."
