Amanda: No, no...oh no what am I going to do?
I'm sorry, I can't do this anymore. I can't be with you. I want to be with you...I want to be with you.
Oh god, I'm getting married for chris sake's.
Judy: You certainly are.
Amanda: Oh, oh gosh you scared me.
Judy: Getting the jitters?
Amanda: Oh, um yeah. Big day and all. Um how much did you hear?
Judy:How much did I hear of what?
Amanda: Nevermind.
I mean, I was just, you know practicing...my vows...um, yeah, we're personalizing them.
Judy: Oh really? That's so sweet, how come you never told me?
Amanda: Oh, well Brian wanted it to be a surprise...um, surprise (laughs)
Oh. What's this thing?
Judy: ...your dress
Amanda: Oh, oooh...(laughs nervously and sits down)
Judy: Darling. My dear, I know your nervous, oh I was too when I got married. But don't worry, that doubt in your heart will soon be over with.
Amanda: Doubt?
Judy: I know deary, I was there too.
Amanda: You mean you-?
Judy: M-hm
Overwhelemed by the feeling of loss. 'Have I made the right choice?' 'Think of all the potentials I'm missing,' 'Will I have to stay as a home maker?'
There are so many things to think about, it's hard for the brain to function.
Oh and men think they have it so hard, trying to figure out if they want to wake up to the same face every morning, when we're the ones who evidently due to their constant sexual urges are forced by nature to push an average size 3 to 4 pound baby out of our delicates, and don't even get me started on--
Amanda: Thanks mom, I feel much better now
Judy: Oh, alright then sweety. Oh darling, just remember to do what your heart feels is right. I know it might seem intimidating right now, but love will conquer all your fears.
Amanda: Thanks mom.
Judy: Well I best go get things prepared, there's alot of work to do
Amanda: Alright mom.
Judy: Oh, and sweet heart, remember your cousin Jeany will be by with your something blue in about five minutes, toodaloo!
Amanda: (looks down at her night gown then hurrily puts on a house coat)
Psst...psssst!
Amanda: Huh? You! What are you doing here?
Amanda: I wanted to see you one last time.
Amanda: You're not supposed to be here!
If you get caught your going to be in huge trouble!
...and...It's not as if your never going to see me again.
Yeah, but by that time you'll be mrs.wifey
Amanda: Oh shutup (laughs)
scrubbin toilet bowls, slaving over a hot stove, taking care of your six children while hubby chases down his ever rewarding career only to leave you alone regretting the day you said 'I do'
Amanda: Shutup!
I'm just teasing, I'm sure it won't be exactly like that
Amanda: Your an idiot
Thankyou.
Amanda: Sigh, what are we doing? We're so immature. This will never work
hey hey hey. Don't talk like that, we love eachother. I mean, its a risky situation, but we'll work through it...okay?
(pause)
I promise.
Amanda: Look Brian I need to tell you something, I...Wait, what is that?
Brian: Someone's coming...I'll see you later darling.
Amanda: Wait, Brian!
Brian: Tell me later, I don't want anything to ruin this moment. Wifey (kiss)
I love you.
Curtis: ...I saw that.
Amanda: AH! Curtis, oh gosh you--
Curtis: Is it really necessary for the bride to be 'sneaking' around with the groom?
Amanda: Um, well you know our family. Big conservative bunch. They're still stuck on the tradition that the bride can't see the groom until she's walking down the aisle (nervously laughs)
Curtis: I know, I thought that would make it easier for us (kisses her neck)
(smirks) Why do you always have to wear such complicated clothes?
Amanda: (Turns away) It's a housecoat
Curtis: Any type of clothing is complicated on you, I'd be better off if you were just naked all the time.
Amanda: Curtis.
Curtis: It was a joke
Amanda: Sigh, did you get my something blue?
Curtis: Here.
Amanda: (pulls it out of a gift bag and quickly crumples it into her hands so that audiance doesn't see)
Curtis: What?
Amanda: (holds up frilly blue lingerie underwear) This is my something blue?
Curtis: There's also a matching corset, garder, and blue fishnets
Amanda: You are such a pervert...What's this?
Curtis: Oh you know, the basics. Whip, handcuffs, strap on--
Amanda: What the hell Curtis?
Curtis: (laughs) What, I mean...I just thought Brian might want a little surprise on your wedding night, and me, for the night after.
Amanda: That's mean
Curtis: Don't even tell me you don't like it that way.
Amanda: You're disgusting
Curtis: So are you. Don't we make a good couple?
Amanda: I'm getting married, to-day! Could we let this rest for 24 hours at the least?
Curtis: Oh what's wrong with you now? you're so indecisive. You act like you don't even want this.
Amanda: I don't
(pause)
Curtis: Baby don't be like that.
You know, a long time ago you told me, that what we had going was a fantasy.
during the day you were the fiancee of the wealthy, charming Brian Hoffe. But by night you became the seductive temptress of Curtis Jean
Hoping to escape the daily grind by falling into my strong arms and experiencing endless nights of explosive passion--
Amanda: You are not helping!
Curtis: But that's how you felt about it, isn't it? Don't even deny it, I know it's true!
Amanda: Jeany this is so wrong, we're cousins!
Curtis: Step-cousins Amanda, Step...cousins. Your uncle is not my real father.
Amanda: We've known eachother since we were five! You're one of the family, you can't deny that Jeany.
Curtis: Don't call me Jeany! Yes, we have known eachother for a long time, and yes you could consider me close enough to be part of your family, but all that means is that I've gotten close enough to you to know what you're really like. To know your wants your needs...He can't do things for you the way I do, he doesn't love you the way I do. And he sure as hell can't satisfy you the way I do.
(knock knock)
Amanda: Come in
Judy: Can I look?
Amanda: At what?
Judy: Amanda, do you even know what time it is!?
You should have been getting into your dress ages ago.
Amanda: Oh mom it hasn't been that long has it?
Curtis: Sorry Auntie Judy, it's my fault, I was giving Amanda congrats.
Judy: Oh my Jeany boy, I haven't seen you in ages. How is my wonderful nephew?
Curtis: Fine Judy
Judy: Oh, what's it been now, a year since we last seen eachother face to face? Really you look so grown up Jeany. (laughs) Sometimes if I haven't seen your face in a while I picture those years when you were just a little gaupher with that long girly mane of yours. Do you remember that Amanda? (laughs) Isn't that when we started calling him Jeany...?(laughs) (everyone feels awkward) Sigh good old days...Oh is that the 'something blue' you brought?
Curtis/Amanda: NO!
Curtis: Auntie Judy, I'm really sorry about keeping Amanda, we completely lost track of time. It was inconsiderate of me to delay her.
Judy: Well now that you've found it, I think it'd in the best interest of our blushing bride to be if you skidaddled.
Amanda: Ack, oh no!
Curtis/Judy: What?
Amanda: Grandma's veil is missing, I can't find it!
Judy: (Shreiks) Amanda! Do you realize how much that veil costs?
Amanda: Wait, I think I might have left it downstairs, I'll go get it!
Judy: Oh no no no, you stay put and get that dress on Asap, I'll go find it. Wouldn't want you to absent mindedly misplace it AGAIN
(Judy exits)
Curtis: So where is it?
Amanda: (Pulls it out from closet) I...just wanted to buy us some time before you had to go... Curtis...you know me better than anyone else...and I know that this whole time, we've had a pretty good thing going...but this has to end.
(pause)
So I'm letting go of Brian.
Curtis: What?
Amanda: You were right, he'll never love me like you do, he'll never know me like you do, How would you put it? He only sees my mask, not my real face.
Curtis: Amanda.
Amanda: Don't say anything, I've made up my mind. But you have to understand, it won't be today alright? I couldn't do that to him...at the very least I want preserve what small respectable veiw he has of me. (Laughs) But it probably would have been better if I had made my mind up sooner.
Curtis: I'll wait... However long it takes, I'll wait. But this time, don't falter, you promise? I don't know if I could take that.
(Amanda knods)
Curtis: Fine. Then, I guess I'll be going then (awkwardly kisses her) (goes to exit, then turns back) (Smile) You know, I really do hate it when you wear white. It doesn't suit you.
(Exit)
Amanda: Brian, I'm sorry...You wouldn't want me if you really knew...I'm sorry...I love you.
