All I can think is that valentine's day makes everyone unhappy
1) you are single. Sad and lonely, drinking wine by yourself. or you have a singles night, so all you and all your sad and lonely friends can pretend to be having a good time when all you can think about is why you're not with the person who you were/are in love with.
2) you are in a shitty relationship that this day enhances. you know you can't not do anything because its valentine's day. but you really don't want to make the effort to make it special, because no matter how much effort you put in, this relationship is not going to be special and a day with a stupid name is not going to change that.
3) you do put everything into getting the perfect gift, writing loving words in a beautiful card, buying chocolates in the shape of a heart and sending flowers anonymously but still put something that completely gives away that it's you. And all day you wait for your gift, your card, your chocolates and flowers. And either they don't show, or its Tesco value chocolates and wilted roses. you start to wish you hadn't made the effort, why should you when it is clear that there was no thought put into your present, because look how shit your present was. and now how shit it has all made you feel.
4) you buy a cheap card thinking your partner probably won't bother much either. you arrive home to be blindfolded and taken to a candle lit room. rose petals are scattered round the room, champagne bubbling in posh glasses. Thornton's chocolates in a posh box with pretty ribbon. And a fresh home cooked meal, that they spent hours cooking just for you. Everything is perfect. And you feel so bad that you bought a really cheap card with cheesy words in. and although they say it doesn't matter you still feel really bad and you can't enjoy your evening anymore.
5) you have really bad memories that you never want to remember but still valentine's day brings it all back. Either something from the above. or something equally disastrous. Something really not to be dwelled on.
My theory
valentines day sucks
Comments:
nicely put I agree with you. valentine's day sucks
you people aren't looking at the world around you, pay more attention to the experiences in life, keep ignoring the experiences and you'll be shut out from happiness and turn into a "scruge"
I do look at the world around me I believe that there are 365 days in a year and valentines day is one day. I beleive that everyday is an occasion and that valentines day is a holiday and alot we put too much on one holiday to celebrate loved ones. I just think that we should celebrate one another evey day
i dont understand what you mean puffyblake
i havent for one moment ignored things that have happened. im saying they just wernt great. likie curlypinky said, i have the rest of the year to be happy and i make the absolute most of it.
what I mean is, I'm bugged by all you people writing negative things, on rare occasion do I read a positive poem/prose, and its usually something I or my friend The Writer have wrote
by that I mean me and my friend never write negative
fair enough
i write to express myself, that normally ends up when ive been through a shit time, so naturally its negative.
i will have to have a look at your writing :)
lol my poems are positive, but they suck, look at my friends he's The Writer (lol he used that to play a prank on me, pretending to be a book publisher)
I'm of the belief that Valentine's Day is a very cruel holiday. I agree that it punishes more than it is celebrates. Thoughts on that aside, I would say it is necessary to write both positive and negative things. Emotions are like colors, like an artist we must explore the full spectrum in our works.
I agree with our sacred honor valentine's day can be a cruel holiday.
yes I agree, but I've rarely seen anyone write a positive poem, we should wonder through and explore, but all I see being done is everyone being negative
